Minutes: Laura volunteered to be the meeting minutes notetaker

Workers’ Compensation injuries: We currently have 5 open claims consisting of sprains/strains caused by lifting (1), repetitive motion (2), bending (1), and falling (1). Going forward we will be looking for any trends, root causes, or contributing factors to our claims.

Quarterly Safety Checklists: Discussion around whether MTC work orders are put in when the Quarterly Safety Checklists are being completed and our responsibility as committee members reviewing them where we clarified that our main focus should be Emergency Systems and Worker Safety portions of the checklist. Laura noted that when she was trained on the checklist that her RD told her to put in maintenance requests for any issues identified. Brandon noted that CompSource is working on a fillable form for the Quarterly Facility Checklist because often the handwritten notes are illegible.

Delivery Driver Incidents: This winter and spring we had three delivery driver incidents, two of which involved drivers who were fill-ins on the routes. There was minor damage needing repair done at BE to an outside door and with the new DC canopy overhang in the drive-thru area.  There was also cosmetic damage at the Service Center to one of the loading dock bay doors.

Fleet Safety Training: Several days after the last incidents, all fleet drivers attended a mandatory yearly training on March 31st, so there was timely reinforcement of best practices.  Being aware of surroundings and taking added care when backing vehicles was addressed. Every year several fleet drivers are chosen to do a random drug test.

Location Evacuation Maps: All locations in need of new evacuation maps have received them as of 4/26 and are posted.

Safety Manual Draft Update: There is an online version currently available while the revision is in the draft stage. All locations and departments will receive hard copies upon completion of the final draft.  All updated emergency data has been compiled and the last 100 pages of the manual are currently under review. Forklift and Scissor Lift Safety have been added to the manual. The goal is to have it completed by the end of the summer.

Lockout/Tagout Training: All Maintenance staff began this training on April 1st and completed it on April 30th.  We are considering rolling it out to more staff in the future.

Site Visits with CompSource: Brandon and Jeff Cover toured the new DC location and the Service Center on May 5th.  Brandon shared some observations about issues needing to be addressed at the Service Center surrounding general housekeeping and storage as well as suggestions for more signage around a couple of the pieces of equipment that have safety risks associated with their use. Some comments about DC involved switching to step stools with more points of contact and the suggestion of doing staff training around the de-escalation of workplace violence.

CompSource Resources for Library Managers: Brandon noted that the monthly 5-minute safety topics lists for staff meetings is almost complete and ready to be shared.  It will include hyperlinks to related additional information.

In-Person Meeting on 7/28: We discussed meeting in-person at a branch with a sorter on 7/28.
