- Assign committee member to take/post meeting minutes.
- John Wood agreed to take minutes and send out to the rest of the committee for any additional information. He will have it posted to the intranet.
- Update on workers’ compensation injuries (Stephany)
- There are currently seven open cases, three of them new since the last Safety Committee Meeting.
- Jeff is going to look to find out if we are including safety training on proper lifting techniques. (Later determined to be upcoming in the second quarter of 2021).
- The Safety Committee discussed adding posters about proper lifting techniques to staff work areas. CompSource may be able to provide some materials.
- Jeff will be meeting with Brandon from CompSource on 4/6 to discuss possible materials and safety trainings they would recommend for us to use.
- Discussed that back safety posters would be the most needed right now. Group discussed that these posters should be placed in areas where lifting is occurring frequently, such as the sorter areas/work room areas, loading docks, and delivery loading/unloading areas.
- Discuss location evacuation maps and status
- Jeff passed along word from Anthony Herron that fire evacuation maps were finished this month. Steve Butts is working with Kim Terry to get these posted in the libraries, in the next couple of weeks.
- Discuss Safety Manual-Draft Update and Action Plan for final review.
- Locations & Departments completed hazardous chemical inventory lists, fire safety protocols, & evacuation plans on 3/12/2021.
- All chemical inventory & evacuation plans were turned in on time. The evacuation plans included severe weather scenarios.
- Working on emergency information contacts/resources. Should have this done by 3/31/2021.
- This is currently being compiled for the new safety manual.
- Manual is still in draft stage. Hope to have it completed soon.
- The new safety manual may be introduced in a Xchange session, hopefully in May.
- Locations & Departments completed hazardous chemical inventory lists, fire safety protocols, & evacuation plans on 3/12/2021.
- Discuss cleaning chemical (Terminator) at MLS & use of diluted product. Status update from Dennis.
- Jeff was able to find an MSDS on diluted variant of Terminator.
- Dennis is working with the custodial company to ensure that they are diluting the product for us. MLS employees should not be handling Terminator dilution themselves. LaVetta also reported that this had been a discussion in the Library Managers’ meeting.
- Discuss status of diatomaceous earth at branches.
- Jeff told access group to place on hold use of this product for now.
- There is concern that the product leaves a residue, and a respirator may need to be worn during use.
- Review incident at Bethany Library where company vehicle hit building.
- Safety committee discussed the importance of reporting accidents immediately, regardless of severity.
- Reporting can be done by fleet drivers or other employees that witness accidents.
- Dennis suggested having checklists in company vehicles for what to do in case of an accident.
- Lockout/Tagout Training—starting this for Maintenance staff by 4/1/2021.
- This will primarily affect maintenance staff.
- This training is to ensure that equipment and machinery is correctly shutdown and marked as out-of-service.
- Discuss possibly having library managers discuss a safety topic (5 minutes) at their library’s monthly staff meeting.
- It was agreed that this could be a good idea using topics introduced at Library Managers Meetings.
- Brandon said that CompSource has some materials available for many topics that may be pertinent.
- LaVetta and Laura thought it would be helpful to have a list for each months’ topic.
