Classification and Compensation Study Project Update - June 15, 2017

Project Update

This is the third update about the ongoing Compensation/Classification and Performance Management studies for the Metropolitan Library System. Since the last communication from me, The Singer Group met with the Performance Management Committee and Library Leadership to present the initial design for the performance management program and draft competencies. Feedback from the groups will be incorporated into the design of the program.

The Singer Group and our project managers (Kelley Hoffman and Michele Gorman) are in the process of seeking volunteers of staff to participate in focus groups to provide additional input on program design before it is finalized. The focus groups will be conducted in mid-June and late July and will include 24 – 30 employees comprising a cross section of library staff and managers.

The Position Description Questionnaire (PDQ) process for the classification study was completed for support services staff last week. Thank you for meeting (or in some cases beating!) the scheduled deadlines and completing the questionnaires on time. The Consultants will be conducting interviews with a cross-section of support services staff in late June to supplement information previously collected. A similar process will be conducted with member services staff. PDQs will go out to a cross section of Access and Engagement staff on June 19,h and interviews for these positions will be conducted in mid- to late-July.

The external custom salary survey will be sent to 36 library comparators, local government, K12, and higher education organizations this week. The Compensation Project Committee was asked by the Consultants to review and pilot test the survey before it goes out and provide their feedback.
As you can see, the projects are moving forward. As promised, we will continue to post bi-weekly updates of project activities.

Please continue to use the hotline - [email protected] to ask questions, share your thoughts, or provide information to the consultants.
Again, thank you for your participation in these important projects!
