Optimization of operating hours
Submitted by david.newyear on Fri, 07/15/2016 - 11:36

Type of Pilot Project:
Public Service
Describe Project and Impact:
Adjustment to operating hours to better align with member demand and to increase inter-reach
Project Description and Expected Outcomes:
Based on available data and observation, DC library has low member use during the last hour of each day. This project would adjust operating hours by closing one hour earlier each day and reallocating staff time to increase inter-reach. [Total operating expense for these times has not yet been calculated. However, even minimal staffing during the last hour costs roughly $130,000 per year. Data and observation suggest our time and money could be used more effectively elsewhere.]
Why should we select this project?:
Low cost, good opportunity (location) to test optimization of operating hours.
Constraints, Limitations, or Dependencies:
Requires Commission approval.
