Homework Heads-up

Type of Pilot Project:
Public Service
Describe Project and Impact:
This service would enable teachers to alert local libraries about book reports/research projects assigned so that librarians have advance notice of soon-to-be popular titles or topics.
Project Description and Expected Outcomes:
You know those days when you're on the desk, and someone asks for a book on a particular topic? And then, an hour later, someone else asks for a book on the same topic? And then a million kids are clamoring for the same thing, and it dawns on you that maybe--just maybe--these children were sent? Wouldn't it have been nice to have known beforehand? That's where Homework Heads-up comes in: educators are provided a link that allows them to fill out a form to either request certain materials or to simply alert librarians at the location(s) that serve their students that an assignment with particular research needs has been given. This will allow librarians to have certain resources available, making the students happy (well, as happy as you can be writing a research paper) and making the librarians look omniscient. This will help form closer ties between libraries and schools, hopefully laying groundwork for future collaborations.
Why should we select this project?:
A little preparatory work upfront will lessen workload and stress down the line.
Constraints, Limitations, or Dependencies:
Requires educators to be made aware in order to make use of the resource and for librarians to know about the requests. Oh, and also the form would need to be created and stuff.
Source of Inspiration:
It came to me in a dream and also the Multnomah County Library does it but mostly I read about the Multnomah County Library's program.
