Facilities Maintenance Related Projects

Pest Control – Our contract with a new pest control service, Erwin’s Pest Control, has started and is official as of today, September 1. We are confirming the schedule for when they will start treatment, and will send this information out to all library managers.

Janitorial Supplies – Current COVID-19 related supplies in stock include: C-Fold paper towels for use with disinfectant spray in wiping down high touch surfaces, curbside pickup t-shirt bags, gloves, hand sanitizer (bottles), kimwipes delicate task wipes for wiping down electronic screens, isopropyl alcohol only for use with wiping down electronic screens, Kleenex, face masks for customer use only, and safety glasses to wear when using disinfectant spray. In the coming weeks, maintenance will be receiving hand sanitizing stations that will be sent to all library locations for touchless hand sanitizer.

Midwest City Public Restroom Renovation – This project is 95% complete. The general contractor will probably call for punch list walk through late this week or early next week.

Downtown Library – Security system is on its way.  The vendor has been given the notice to proceed on the equipment from the City.  Waiting on parts.  The exterior signage for the library has been approved and the City is waiting on Studio Architects to provide construction documents.

Fleet Safety/Maintenance Monitoring – We recently received training for the new software. We will be entering all vehicle maintenance items in the system.  An email will go out to let fleet drivers, assigned vehicles, know when maintenance is due.  Fleet drivers/persons responsible will be expected to have maintenance items addressed in a timely manner.

Wright Library – The front porch/stairway has had a temporary makeover to address some vandalism/concrete concerns.  This temporary fix will be in place until the renovations are completed.  Steel gates are scheduled to be installed on the west side of the building.  Both entrances.  Waiting on gates to be built. Studio Architects has been to the library to draw up preliminary floor plans for the interior remodel. Written feedback from Public Services was provided to the architects.

Capitol Hill Library - The exterior signage for the library has been approved and the City is waiting on Studio Architects to provide construction documents. The yellow paint on the front and the NW corner tower will be repainted. The original paint has faded. The city has asked the general contractor to repaint with a more durable product. The installation of the footing for the public art piece will be installed in the coming weeks. The art piece is still being fabricated but will have a flight theme and will provide shade for the children’s patio area.

Capital Projects

New Del City Library – The project is on schedule. Interior walls are being painted. ADG is working with the architect and Library staff on placement of computer tables. Furniture design selections/specifications are being finalized.

Temporary Belle Isle Library Location – The general contractor is waiting on final inspections after adding fire sprinkler heads in required locations.

Belle Isle Renovation/Addition – A perimeter fence is in place. Interior demolition is in progress.

New Almonte Library – The City Council approved the authorization to negotiate a contract for architectural/engineering and design services for the new Almonte Library on September 1, 2020.  The project is awarded to Hornbleek Blatt Architects of Edmond, Oklahoma.  The contract price for design services is not disclosed but the construction budget for the project is $5.7 million.

Edmond Library #2 – The memorandum of understanding to begin the selection process for an architect to prepare a preliminary building program was approved at the August 27th Commission meeting. We are touring a site with the City of Edmond on September 2nd to evaluate its potential for a second Edmond Library.

Bethany Library  – Sprinkler head damage led to an increase in the water bill. MTC has turned the system off and with the current weather condition we will have time to fix the issue.

Ralph Ellison- The window replacement project is in progress. The windows have been removed and a temporary wall to keep the weather out is in place. On the night of August 31, 2020 we had a small roof leak. We think it may have been an existing condition and not part of the project demolition that caused the leak. The rain this week may slightly delay the project but we will have to wait and see.

Southern Oaks – The same window project that is ongoing at Ralph Elision is scheduled to begin at Southern Oaks on September 29th.

Next meeting: Tuesday, October 2 at 2:00pm-2:45pm via ZOOM
