Summer at the Library
The staff training DVD was presented and Emily walked the programmers through this year’s process and answered questions.
Teen Advisory Boards
John talked about his success with teen advisory board programs and handed out some materials with suggested activities. Emily shared some links to TAB resources on the web and provided a handout with ideas for an initial meeting.
Upcoming Events
The group discussed Free Comic Book Day, wizard rock, SoonerCon and Teen Read Month.
Booktalks
Suzette talked about The Fold by An Na, which she used in a teen book discussion program. Cyndi sported a great fake English accent to read from Angus, Thongs, and Full Frontal Snogging by Louise Rennison.
Sharing
DN –success of this year’s I Can’t Believe I Shot That! teen film contest.
DC –expansion of their YA section, Xbox in YA area, trash art, altered clothing program, candle-making
CT – Land Run Day, rock/wire jewelry, anime club
WA – anime drawing programs with Alex, poetry contest, ice cream social
CH – teen drawing club (CHAW!) eventually make a zine, bulletin board on reference desk, Hispanic Expo w/DDR
VI – no more paperback spinners, interfiling JFic, screenplay writing class in July, craft station day, drum clinic – Billy Thompson, anime club going strong, VI fair
RE – poetry day read-a-thon, block party for grand opening week, Juneteenth
ED – Peeps contest, anime drawing with Alex, June cosplay, t-shirts for EMAC
SO – improv program, Fan Fiction/Fan Art contest
MC – driving safety, improve, music fest, job readiness with Rose State, internet safety, Lego robots, Yu-Gi-Oh and Pokémon, Project Transformation
