Training Times January 2019
Happy New Year from Learning and Development
LinkedIn Learning has purchased Lynda.com and fully integrated them into their new platform. On January 16, 2019, MLS will migrate it to this new platform on the staff side through EduBrite (not through the customer side on the library website).
The migration will take a short amount of time (more to come) and you will NOT be able to access any Lynda.com courses through EduBrite until it is completed. Once completed, the same processes will be in place. ALL of your courses you have taken, WILL transfer over to LinkedIn Learning and it will be seamless for MLS Staff (knock on wood)!
The only difference will be visual. When you launch your course through EduBrite, the same steps will be followed. When you get to the landing page, it will now look different and be LinkedIn Learning. You will proceed with your course and completion the EXACT same way!
It will look something like this depending on what action you are taking at the time.
This DOES NOT impact the Lynda.com database offered for customers through the Metrolibrary.org. This only on the MLS Employee side through EduBrite.
More to come.....
WHAT is Cybersecurity and WHY?
Cybersecurity is the practice of protecting systems, networks, and programs from digital attacks. These attacks are usually aimed at accessing, changing, or destroying sensitive information; extorting money from users; or interrupting normal business processes.
Implementing effective cybersecurity measures is particularly challenging today because there are more devices than people, and attackers are becoming more innovative.
and why....
Within the past several months MLS has experienced some cyber attacks which have impacted a few of our staff members. The system feels it is important to provide general information on this topic that can not only help you at work but in your personal life as well. The ALL staff training is only 6(m) 56(s). HOWEVER, on the introduction page, there are several courses listed on Cybersecurity that are available through EduBrtie.
WHAT is compliance training and WHY do I need to do it?
Compliance Training is employee training mandated by legislation, regulation or policy. It educates staff on the laws or regulations applicable to their job function or industry.
These laws are predominantly in place to maintain the safety of the workplace and the dignity of the employee as well as bring awareness and education. These training initiatives are mandatory. MLS wants to ensure you have the education on laws and policies that apply to your day to day job responsibilities. Various compliance coursed are available in EduBrite for viewing and as a resource.
... and this safety stuff.. but why?
Safety Training - as an Oklahoma public employee you have the right to a safe and healthful workplace. The Oklahoma Occupational Health & Safety Standards Act of 1970 provides job safety and health protection for public workers. Rules have been adopted which include both employer and employee responsibilities. These include state, county, city and public school agencies and certain public trusts. This is based on the Public Employee Occupational Safety & Health (PEOSH) ~ hence the quarterly required safety training.
As part of the Performance Development Program under the Professional Development Competency, all staff are required to have completed certain required trainings throughout the year based on when they started.
