Day 8

Staff:

Can't seem to find what you’re looking for? Well, you’re in luck. MyMetrolibrary has two built-in searches to bring you in contact with the information you’re needing.

When you first type in the search term on MyMetrolibrary and click the search button, you’ll receive results from the 'content search'. This search is a basic search on all of the textual content on the site, it does not, however, search within documents. Even though this particular search does not search within documents, it does search all of the text on our site. This is one of the main reasons Web Services converted as much of the information as possible on the Intranet to text to help improve the general search on our site.

Still not finding the information you need? That’s okay. You can also perform basic Boolean searches within this general search. Separating keywords with “ “ and adding AND, NOT, or OR between keywords can help narrow your search even further. Or you can use the 'Advanced Search' which allows you to narrow the search by using “Containing any of the words”, “Containing the phrase”, or by “Containing none of the words”.

The Advanced Search also can narrow content by these specific content types:

  • Administrative Directives (when they are added to the site)
  • Basic Page (normal web pages such as the landing pages for all of the main navigation)
  • Forms & Documents (forms and documents uploaded – searches the titles but not the content on the forms or documents)
  • Help Pages (help pages such as eMedia, MyMetrolibrary help sections)
  • Job Descriptions (searches the titles but not the content on the documents)
  • Meeting Minutes (searches text of the meeting minutes)
  • News & Publications (searches the titles but not the content in the newsletters)
  • Policy & Procedures (searches text of the policies and procedures)
  • Reports & Stats (searches the titles but not the content in the reports or stats)
  • Strategic Plan Highlights (searches the text of the highlights but not the uploaded documents)

Still can’t find what you’re looking for? No worries, you have SASi (pronounced Sassy) search. SASi stands for Super Advanced Search Interface. With SASi, you can search all content and documents. The same Boolean searching with AND, OR, and NOT is still in place plus more features! You can narrow down topic by any content type (not just those listed on the general search) plus narrow down by date, committee, or location if listed. The great thing about SASi is it can (and will) evolve to meet our needs as time goes on.
