Position Mapping Form/General Alignment Question

After the position mapping form, what will be the process for officially indicating the position for which we feel we are best suited? It seems like it would be a good idea to get a general sense of how many staff would like to just map to their lateral position and how many feel they would be better utilized in a different position.

Position Mapping

Hi, Andrea.

The "Alignment Position Preference Survey" is how you would officially indicate the position you feel best suited for that is also a lateral move for your current position. For example, as a Library Events Coordinator, I have three choices of Children/Teen/Adult Specialist II. If I was interested in a position outside of my lateral transfer, I would need to apply for that position if and when it opens.

There are very few post-alignment positions (roughly 10) that won't have a position that laterally maps. The issue with asking staff where they would want to go outside of their current lateral move is that a majority of the positions they would desire will actually be filled by lateral moves. Once the dust settles from lateral moves, the vacant positions will be available for applicants to apply for.

That being said, if you have an idea for utilizing the data that could be gathered from a survey like the one you detailed, I would be happy to bring it up in the next Alignment Project Committee meeting.

Thanks for the reply, Bobby.

Thanks for the reply, Bobby. I based my question off the information in the original slide presentation that mentioned "opportunities for best placement for staff" and "where do you see yourself?", "where do you want to be?", and "where do you best fit?" From those phrases, I (perhaps incorrectly) assumed that part of the alignment would be a check-in with staff to see if they felt their skills and abilities would be better utilized in other positions. I will follow up with you in an email with more information that might be helpful for the alignment committee.

Best,
Andrea
