Name Tags

When the Alignment has settled, will we be getting name tags to reflect our new positions and titles? With such a strong emphasis on identifying and claiming our strengths and age group specificiations, it seems strange that our name tags simply identify us as MLS employees. I feel like it would be helpful for those specializing in adult services or children's services to have name tags stating their speciality, particularly when working out in the community. Similarly, it can be helpful for members to know they're speaking to the Access Manager or the Library Manager, inside our branches.

Last Names

If we do get new name tags, I hope that they stay like our current ones and only have our first names on them. There have been some cases at my library in particular with not exactly stalkers, but enough creepiness that I would fear for them to know our last names.

I think everyone prefers this

I think everyone prefers this and that it's not necessary for non-management personnel to display their last names, so I agree. I would, however, like to be identified as a Teen Librarian, were I to be representing the system in the community.

I agree...

I accidentally wore mine out in public on lunch one day and a member saw it and tracked me down at the library :/ I definitely would prefer that my last name be left off!

No New Name Tags

Hi Kara, I just saw this ... While name tags aren't really in my bailiwick, I don't believe we've discussed getting new ones -- especially with titles on them. Our focus on strengths and providing staff with audience focus isn't necessarily best communicated through job titles and name tags. I think that the service we give should speak for itself. That's why none of our name tags have titles (including mine).

Also, regarding last names, when we first switched to the current name tags, we said that it was fine for anyone to use either their first or first and last name on the tag ... In fact, I thought everyone got two -- one with your first name only and another with first and last ... Is that not still happening?

Thanks ... and to clarify

Thanks, Gatlin ... I'm guessing you are asking if this is the way we do it ... ? ... If so, the answer is no, we didn't actually do it the way described in the entry you listed from Leadership Team ... We went with a cheaper and more flexible ways of making the tags -- we didn't etch them and didn't use label makers to create the "high turnover" ones. I will check in with Human Resources and Marketing and have them address how the creation and distribution is handled ... Regardless, we didn't include titles. Thanks again for the link.

I commented because I thought

I commented because I thought that "[t]he majority of staff will receive name tags with only their first name" was right. I also saw an e-mail that I received which stated that Assistant Manager would be the lowest position to have surnames. I can tell you that I received two with my given name only.
I'm glad that you are checking on that. I know that multiple individuals either had a nickname printed though wanted the given name printed or vice-versa. So knowing how to request that change would be good information to share.
To be clear, I'm not trying to cause trouble or stir the pot. I was just answering questions and commenting enthusiastically. I know that sometimes postings on drupal have skewed tone and I don't want that type of confusion.

Sounds good ...

Great ... I should probably also mention that I don't always get the details right on the first pass ... just because I remember it one way doesn't mean we didn't agree to do something different ... either way we'll get it figured out. Thanks again.
