Summer Reading TV ad

Happy Monday everyone! I will be posting our Summer Reading advertising schedule soon, but first I'd like to get your opinion on our TV commercial.  We will be advertising to reach Moms and Grandparents, so the spots will be on shows like Ellen, Dr. Oz, Entertainment Tonight, Live! Kelly & Ryan, HGTV, Food Network, TLC, etc.

Which of the two commercials do you like best to reach moms? If you don't want to reply in the comments, you can email me!

Fun!

I like them both, but the animated one caught my attention more and feels more targeted to parents and not children. The live action one is one that feels more targeted to children. The animated one also gets points in that you told me I can do it with my kid and my kid and I will both be more successful if we read more.

Both totally ROCK!!!!

I like them both Kim! The children's one caught my attention as a mother. The song is super catchy. I know my daughter would ask me to bring her to to the library if she seen that super awesome commercial. Hope this helps!!!

Demographics

With the target audience being parents/grandparents, I find that the animated one will make me want to go to the library. The song one feels like it should be on Cartoon Network, Disney, and Nick.

I'm not a mom but I like option #1! :)

I'm a huge fan of the 2nd one! I think it's catchy and different than what we've had in the past.

Kids was better

The animated one didn't mention the library until 15 seconds in. I thought the one with the kids promoted the library more. It was also louder and made you pay more attention to what it was about.

I think the animated one is much more appealing to adults. I also like that is is Metro branded throughout.

reaching Moms

As a parent, the second video is the one that catches my attention.

While both are great, I lean towards the animated one. I like how it's much more specifically branded to MLS. Even though it's still targeted to parents/grandparents, the first one also more clearly sends the message that Summer Reading is for everyone, which I think is an important message!

second one

I vote for the second one! Very cute!

I vote for the animated one. I like that it promotes summer reading to everyone.

I vote for the animated commercial since Summer Reading is for everyone, not just kids. I would assume that summer reading was just for kids from the second video. : )

I think moms would prefer the animated one.

I agree

that the second one seems more kiddish...I would likely mute it, honestly. But my kids would love it. I think the animated one would catch my (positive) attention better.

The second one didn't seem to have an emphasis on reading, just music.

The live action one is awesome and so much fun! I love the song and the energy - I just worry that parents will tune it out, and also that the tie-in with Metro doesn't occur until right at the very end. WE know that the theme for SRP is "Libraries Rock," but I don't think the general public will get what the commercial is trying to promote. The animated one, though, makes a much clearer connection to SRP throughout and I think will appeal more to the target audience.

As a mom, I prefer the one

As a mom, I prefer the one with children. My almost-5-year-old would be super excited about that commercial... and beg me to take her to the library so she can dress up like a rock star and play a guitar. lol

I vote Animated!

I love the animated one for reaching moms and grandparents!

I think it depends on what

I think it depends on what message you want to deliver. The second one fits really well with this year's theme. The music dominates though, and while it is super fun with a catchy tune, the come-away is that kids can have a rockin' time at the library this summer. I believe it would appeal to younger parents and certainly their groovin' guys and girls. It makes us look like the happenin' place to go. That's all very positive, but if you want moms and grandparents to understand the value for families in reading 20 minutes a day, then the first (animated) one does a far better job. It is still attention-getting and fast-paced but says far more about our purpose.

I think the animated commercial would be more appealing to moms. I agree with Mark, that parents might tune out the live action commercial because it seems like it is specifically targeting children. I can totally see kids loving the live action commercial. It reminds me a lot of a Chuck E. Cheese commercial.

Audience

I think the real question here is who are we targeting with the ad- If targeting adults, I agree with a lot of these posts that the animated one is better as it gives more info on why reading every day is good for you, and how the library can help w/that. If we want to get kids excited for SR, the second one is better.

Whichever one you choose to run, I think having the ability to show these at OUT visits would be beneficial too.

2nd one

I vote for the 2nd one with the kids. They both are great, and different advantages to each one, but I think it's really important to encourage people to go to the library. Showing the library will make sure that people know that there is a lot going on this summer that they don't want to miss!

Summer reading

I liked the animated spot better. The kid one was a little loud and busy for me! It would probably appeal to kids, but I like the information in the animated one.

What if...

What if we used the animated one for the TV ads, but we sent or took the second one to schools when we go to promote Summer Reading? We could use it as an intro before we talk about Summer Reading. I think it would help the kids get into what you have to say, if you start with that clip first.
