Finding passwords

At my recent training, one of you mentioned that members will still have their Beanstack accounts from last summer, and that we might need to help them retrieve their passwords. Since I think this is a very likely scenario, how do we do that? Is there a tutorial? :)

passwords and Beanstack

Robin - actually we really mean resetting their password, there's a button "I forgot my password" so just following the steps to reset. It will send an email to their email on file and they have to retrieve it and click on the link in the email to reset. I did it tonight just to be sure before I send this response.

Thanks for the clarification,

Thanks for the clarification, Debbie. So if they no longer use the email on file, or have forgotten their password for that (email) account, (a regular occurrence around here!) then we would just have to set up a new Beanstack account, correct? Is there/will there be a way to delete duplicate accounts?

drobertus
No, if they have forgotten

No, if they have forgotten their password for that (email) account, (a regular occurrence around here!) just use the forgot my password - don't need to set up another account.
also, you can go into the admin part - should have a login and password for your library - and find their info. look them up in People and it will give you their username and what email they used. You can also change their email on file in the admin portion or at least get them into their own account so they can edit their info. Adding a new account should be the last option taken.

FAQS

Like Robin, I am predicting that this will be a VERY common situation the first few days. Is there a way we could get detailed instructions for how to reset passwords through the staff side added to the FAQ section of the summer reading page? It can be a little tricky to locate the correct "edit" button, as there are two.
In trying to find this info today, it took a lot of searching to finally arrive here on the forum.
I am sure it will only take a few times doing this to become experts, but some of us will only be called upon occasionally to answer this question, and it would be nice if a detailed answer was easy to find.
The video that says it answers this question is almost 15 minutes long, and begins with a discussion on what type of coworker we want- which isn't really conducive to efficiently finding an answer with a member standing in front of us.
Thanks!

oops

Looks like the wrong video was linked to that question. Here is the video on how to update or reset passwords. It's only a minute and fifteen seconds! Sorry, Amy! Thanks for catching that. https://vimeo.com/218466665

added to FAQ

It's also been added to the staff FAQ. Thanks for the suggestion.

Thanks Emily!

That was fast work :-)
Can we specify that the place to click is in the right hand box under "Account Info" and is a button that says "edit", as opposed the all the links on the left under each reader's name that say "Edit information"?

done

Kellie Delaney got it updated for us!
