Salute: Margo Ellis

Long after the Beyond You salutes have been resigned to the digital ether, consigned to the dustbin of employee recognition programs, there will be one salutation that defies a shift+delete (or a recycle bin emptying at the very least). One which describes connective prowess unlikely to have ever been matched. And that salute belongs to one Margo Ellis.

I follow MyMetrolibrary activity regularly and it’s interesting to read the policy review commenting currently under way. I found the discussion of Family Talk really interesting, but Margo’s replies were those that I found particularly heartening.

Using canny perception, Margo recalled a previous encounter with the book What's Happening to Ellie?, believing the title to bear varying location codes. She followed that up with all the tenacity of a harrier, identifying that the title was not required to be placed into Family Talk and correlating that to standard operating procedures. She also patiently explained how materials are processed in her workspace and provided a suggestion for a remedy.

I feel Margo deserves acclaim for taking the time to identify both a problem and a solution in a non-judgmental way and in a manner likely to be useful to others. This act was not something that she was required to do but did do in the spirit of teamwork and camaraderie to which we should aspire. I suspect we'll hear more from Margo in the future. She has a preternatural understanding of the answer, and if not, exactly who is the best person to go to with nearly anything.

Three cheers for Margo!

I haven't had a chance to see this conversation yet, although I will certainly be looking for it after this salute. However I have seen Margo provide consistently thoughtful and thought-provoking comments on the policy & procedure review and on Ask Tim. I'm grateful for your voice, Margo!
