Program Justification
Is a program the best way to meet the expressed need or present information?:
Yes
Does the program fit the goals of the MLS?:
Yes
How & why does this program meet the goals of the MLS?:
The Knitty Committee program fits the library system’s strategic plan in the following ways: • Satisfies curiosity by providing a space and time to learn the craft of knitting • Allows participants to explore a topic of personal interest • Provides enrichment to the community, especially through the intergenerational activity of older people teaching younger people to knit • Participants can work on and produce items for their personal enjoyment or gifts for others
Which Strategic Plan Response/Goals does this program meet?:
Satisfy Curiosity: Your libraries are centers that offer access to civic, cultural and community enrichment opportunities.
Why will this program be successful?:
Historic interest in this type of program: Interest in Village hosting the program initially came from Anita Roesler from Outreach. Back in 2008 she called me, Julianna Link, to ask whether a program already in place at another location could be moved to the Village. I believe the other location was the Belle Isle library (or maybe Edmond); that location had 2 regular craft/handwork programs happening, and we had none, so I was happy to schedule the Knitty Committee knitting group to come and meet here once a month on Saturday mornings. I did so with the stipulation that the sessions would be open to the public and that the leaders of the group would teach knitting to anyone who came. They readily agreed.
How will success be measured/determined?:
The success of this recurring program can be measured in its longevity and consistent attendance. The Knitty Committee has often expressed its gratitude for their use of our space and for our promotion of its dates & time in the Info magazine.
