Staff Association Meeting Minutes - March 2014

Present: Jeremy Titsworth (NW) – Chair, Kevin Colwell (SC), Katie Hatfield (MC), Tulin LaFollette (DC) –Secretary, Shanelle Jackson (VI) – Treasurer, Natasha Earle (AL), Barb Parr (SO), Monte Camp (CH), Joan Kendall (ED)

Commission Report: No Commission report

Treasurer Report:  Shanelle reported we currently have a balance of $244.41 and 68 members.

Minutes:  Jeremy brought approval of February minutes to the floor, Katie made a motion to accept and Shanelle. Barb mentioned the date of DN closing was wrong. Downtown Library will close March 31st.

Fuzzies:  Katie motioned to pre-order 15 packages of 20 trophies in May through Hobby Lobby Tulins seconded the motion.  Shanelle will place the order in May.  Jeremy will check with Cheryl about gold labels.  We will assemble the Fuzzies during the meeting in May.

Guest Speakers:  The PIE Committee will be our guest speakers for the April meeting.  Lloyd Lovely from the Business Office, Curtiss Ray from Maintenance, Cheryl Mann from Circulation, and Extension Specialists, are some recommended ideas for future guest speakers.  In order to give more focus to sub-committees we will not host a guest speaker every month.

Library News:

  • Edmond -Joan reported that ED has been short staffed lately and the new Assistant Manager has been helping at Circulation.
  • Village - Shanelle reported the Superhero party at VI was very successful.  They are gearing up for Summer Reading.
  • Service Center - Kevin announced the Service Center will have a Potluck Fundraiser for the Heartwalk. They have received a lot of JF and YA this month. The Department received a lifter that makes it easier for staff to lift things from the floor. 
  • Northwest - Jeremy reported NW is back to being fully staffed again. They added two more children’s programs on Thursdays to help with overcrowding during other programs. They are gearing up for Summer Reading.
  • Almonte - Almonte’s Snake Program was very successful with over 50 people attending. AL Staff is creating a Party Planning Committee. Almonte need a Children’s Librarian.
  • Midwest City - Katie announced the MC had a successful interactive showing of The Little Mermaid this month.
  • Del City - Tulin reported the Bowling Alley has been removed from the future sight of the new Library.
  • Southern Oaks -  Barb reported they are getting ready for Summer Reading. SO is short a Library Aide and a FT Librarian will be leaving in July. Children’s programs have kept them busy.
  • Capitol Hill - Monte reported the Trip Around the World program was very successful. They are waiting for the remodeling to happen.

Subcommittees met for discussion at 3:10
Subcommittees regrouped at 3:40 and discussion of ideas followed

Rebranding Subcommittee

  • Concentrate on a new Staff Association logo and redirection.
  • Offer incentives to join similar to keep it local cards which offers discounts to local businesses.

Focus Subcommittee

  • Photo Booth with a background similar to a box of Wheaties featuring the champion theme.
  • Signed basketball for raffle.

Annual Meeting

  • Talent show with carnival theme as the talent being center ring entertainment.
  • Goal to have low cost fundraising.
