Construction Updates - February 19, 2014

  • CAPITOL HILL
    • On 2/13, MLS “formally” submitted a request to OKC for additional funding.  Per their response on 2/14, we have advanced to the 2nd phase of a 5 step process.  Based upon their response, Todd believes the design work will begin in late April.
    • The design schedule will have a big impact on library operations.  CON has prepared 2 updated schedules for review by OKC.
      • The early schedule shows MLS moving out in March of next year with construction starting about 60 days later.
      • The late schedule shows MLS moving out in August, after summer reading.
      • OKC & MLS will be meeting on 2/25/14 to review these.

  • DEL CITY
    • Demolition on the interior of the bowling alley is almost complete.  We understand the building is scheduled to come down this week.
    • A 2nd MLS Design Team meeting was held on Friday 2/7 to update the Program needs.  This review indicated a need for a 15,700 square foot library.
    • This information will be incorporated into the Del City / MLS project agreement.

  • DOWNTOWN
    • MLS and OKC are reviewing the 95% plans for the 180 Project that includes Park Avenue.  Lighting seems to be the biggest remain issue.

  • EDMOND PARKING
    • The 99% concept plans were issues on 2/13 and show the addition of 17 spaces on site and 11 off site spaces.   A draft estimate was also issued on 2/13.
    • Edmond, the architect and MLS meet today, 2/19 to review this information.
    • The current plan calls for a Memorandum of Understanding to be presented to the MLC on March 20th.
    • If all is approved, the design work could start in late March and construction would start after summer reading.

  • JONES
    • An updated elevation of the Jones Library was approved by Jones and MLS on 1/17.  The 95% Design Development plans (which represent the 2nd 1/3 of the design process) are expected March 24th.
    • Oklahoma County had been working on the road and Jones has been working the site utilities.  In the photo, the library will be located near and to the right of the pile of dirt in the background. (The photo was taken from the Red Rooster parking lot, looking west by northwest)
    • If things stay on track, we will be ready to go out for construction bids in early fall.

  • NORTHWEST

    • The installation of additional lights for the Children’s Program Room started February 17th.  They are the hanging white fixture in the photo.  The installation is scheduled to be competed at the end of this week.
    • MLS met with OKC and the contractor on 2/17 to review a draft of Bollard Replacement Plan.   An updated plan for pricing is to be issued late next week.
    • MLS continues to work with OKC on outstanding Warranty issues.

Construction updates

Yes, I totally agree! Thanks for the updates; I always find them interesting, esp. the ones dealing with CH (TP's + CAT's "temporary home" for many, many, many years). I still feel like I have a vested interest in what happens to the "old home".

Thank you, Todd

As a former CH inhabitant, like Heidi and Aaron, I also really appreciate these updates. I will be really proud and excited to see a renovated library in Capitol Hill. I also hope my long-held plans to steal the awesome vintage 1953 "Nuclear Fallout Shelter" sign off the front of the building might finally come to fruition. . . .

Glory!

I'm just grateful it's "only" a 5 step process! Feels like we've been stuck on Phase 1 (or is it Phase 0?) for too many years.

Chris Carroll, you'll have to pry that sign out of Todd's cold, dead hands. I think he's got a collection of antique stuff found on his many forays into CH's nooks and crannies.
