Community Involvement

We are dedicated to being a presence in the community, and show this dedication by our involvement with civic leaders, community activities, and the customers who visit every day.
- 12/12: Holiday Open House -- featuring pictures with Santa, reading with Santa's Elves, a jazz band, refreshments, and more.
- 12/12: Holiday Fun Week -- a weeklong event for parents and children, offering make and take crafts, designing wrapping paper, sugar cookie decorating, and movie matinee
- 1/13: Bilingual family storytime -- Stories, nursery rhymes, and more in both English and Spanish, with a craft or play activity included.
- 2/13: Beyblade Tournament -- Capitol Hill youths battled it out in the spinning toy top arena
- 3/13: Seussical Celebration -- our annual party marking the birthday of world famous author Dr. Seuss, featuring a Dr. Seuss read-a-thon, activities and refreshments.
- 4/13: AARP tax help provided for community.
- 5/13: Staff members attended rededication of memorial for Manual Perez Jr., a WWII hero, and helped with efforts to revitalize the park established in his name.
- 6/13: Staff promoted and attended Capitol Hill Main Street's first Taco Truck Thursday, an event aimed at highlighting businesses along Commerce Street featuring authentic food and live entertainment. We welcomed new customers to tour our library and facilities.
- 7/13: Staff served on a panel at Oklahoma City Schools ELL Excellence Symposium: School Success Now! and highlighted resources, databases, and materials available to community educators.
- 8/13: Staff attended Parent Night at Lee Elementary, distributing library materials and issuing library cards.
- 8/13: Library begins offering classes in Spanish and English for Total Wellness. This is a 12-week diabetes, heart disease, cancer, and asthma prevention program, co-sponsored by the Oklahoma City County Health Dept. (OCCHD).
- 9/13: Attended Fiesta de las Americas, a Capitol Hill Main Street event, to promote library materials and services.
- 10/13: Partnered with Historic Capitol Hill and OCCC to create Haunt the Hill: a safe trick-or-treat opportunity for children and families.
