Presentation - OKDRS (Magan Rowan & Cheryl Snow)

  • Summary: The group heard a presentation by representatives from the Oklahoma Department of Rehabilitative Services about serving guests with visual impairment.  The presentation covered:
  • Background/misconceptions about visual impairment.
  • Data and statistics about visual impairments in Oklahoma.
  • Device/Technology/Software solutions to help guests with visual impairments.
  • Etiquette about serving guests with visual impairments.

Guest Experiences Update- Mark Schuster, PSA

  • Summary: Mark shared reminders about GX 1.0 training with the PSM group.
  • Locations should add GX training dates to the spreadsheet.
  • If you have your dates scheduled, please invite Larry, who will aim to attend as many sessions as possible.
  • Recommend attending a session before your library leads a session for awareness.
  • If a staff member misses the training, the LM can present content during a 1:1 session.
     

DHS update- Mark Schuster, PSA

  • Summary: Mark shared updates related to the DHS Embedded Worker program and general DHS services with the PSM group.
  • Working on updated MOU to expand the embedded worker service at Metro. 
  • Expanded their call answering/intake program - previously only 90 staff answered and did preliminary interviews.  Now anyone that answers the phone can assist the person on the other line (600 people); vital tool to assist in the moment.

Outreach & Engagement update- Kimberly Boldt, OES

  • Summary: Kimberly shared updates from OES, including:
  • Budgeting (underway)
  • Summer Reading reminders
  • Metro is exploring participating in the Book Rich Environment program through the public housing authority.

Policy & Procedures Feedback- Risa Jensen-Jones, PSA

  • Summary: Risa led the group through a discussion about recently shared updates to policies & procedures.
  • Reminder - meeting room reservations are open records and subject to FOIA. 
  • Next Steps: PSLT will review all P&P updates with Larry.  Then they will need to be shared with and approved by the Commission Public Services Committee.  Finally, they will need to be shared with and approved by the full Commission.

  • Summary: Rondia shared an update about the process of applying for a Smithsonian traveling exhibit grant.
