Public Services Managers Minutes - December 01, 2022
Happy Notes: Several managers shared positive news/events that had happened recently.
MLS Podcasts—Sheldon Beach shared information about the system’s podcasts. The podcast themes alternate monthly between library related ones and Oklahoma history. We currently have 40-50 podcasts recorded. The most popular one is the BC Clark Christmas jingle. The podcasts get lots of downloads: right now, total number of downloads is 13,355. Sheldon encouraged everyone to suggest ideas to use for a podcast. Anyone can be on a MLS podcast.
Guest Experiences (GX) update—Mark Shuster provided the managers will an update on GX that included the Why about GX, GX rollout goals & objectives, two training sessions, a timeline, and what we can be doing now to prepare for GX.
Consistency in Study Room Rules—Risa Jensen-Jones and Erin Bedford discussed some of the rules for using Study Rooms. Guests can have a maximum reservation time of 2 hours a day per person/group. Guests can stay in the room until the next reservation arrives. They cannot book additional time for later in the same day. The Rules of Conduct apply to all library guests, including study room users. Snacks and drinks are allowed as long as the guests leave the space clean. Staff may need to do a PITTS incident report if staff need to spend excessive time cleaning up the space. You may need to remind guests that the study rooms are not soundproof so voices and sounds can carry through the walls. Guests need to take their belongings with them if they need to leave the room after their reservation ends. Locations need to have the study room rules posted in the rooms and at service desks. The rules will be updated with our guest language.
OLA conference—Erin Bedford noted that Early Bird registration begins on December 6. This year, the budgeted amount is not what Early Bird registration costs; there has been a $15 increase. Let your Regional Director know who wants to go to the OLA conference. If you budgeted for three and three people will be going, funds will need to be moved around.
Security issue—Dennis Letter needs contact information for those locations that have TriCorps security. This is so that the TriCorps Security Supervisor can contact the library when a security officer is running late, or the supervisor is sending a different officer due to the assigned one calling in. Dennis also mentioned that he is taking photos at the libraries to use in training sessions.
Location sharing--Attendees shared recent activities and news from their location or department.
