Access Workshop Feedback

  • Nicole presented a brief overview of the 6-hat thinking exercise that the Access Workshops work group completed recently.  It included: Facts, Emotions, Problems, and Positives of the current Access Workshops.
  • Daniel led the Library Manager team in an exercise using the green hat thinking to generate ideas for things that could be done differently to make the Access Workshops better. 
  • If you have additional thoughts, reach out to a workgroup member or fill out the MS Form provided by Tricia.

Safety Updates

  • Safety Committee is recommending:
    • If you have a swing arm paper cutter, please replace those with a paper trimmer, this would be for any that you might have on the public floor as well as in staff areas. 
    • We are asking that everyone stop opening boxes with a pair of scissors and purchase safety box cutters to use for opening packages. Please remind staff to open any boxes with the blade facing away from your body.
  • Discussion on round kick stools. 
    • The suggestion was made from a library manager to use our current stools up against a shelf or solid surface to create the three points of contact.
    • As we move to shorter shelves, this may not be a need in the future. 
    • As we replace step stools, we might look at getting a different style.  No need to replace them at this time.
  • Updated safety manual will be sent out as soon as they are back from the printer.
  • Safety Committee is still re-working the Quarterly Safety Checklist.

Genre Heading Update

  • A RETRACK Revision + Realignment Report from the RETRACK workgroup was presented.
  • The presentation by Clyde and Devon included the history of the project, an explanation of master headings and how the names were chosen, the inclusion of DEI in the project which took suggestions from the Collection’s Diversity Audit.
  • Implementation of genre heading will start from this moment forward.  Limited back updating will take place.
