Icebreaker: “Micro Victories/Hunt the Good Stuff” - Mark
Background Checks – Emily Williams The Background Check Project Team recommended that paid program presenters undergo the same background checks as volunteer presenters. A budget for these checks has been allocated, and there will be an Intranet post explaining the new procedures before implementation.
Delivery Study Update – Chris, Jennifer Livingstone & Vicki Thompson Following a study of our current delivery schedule and route map, a number of changes are being recommended. These changes will affect the Monday through Friday delivery schedule for some locations and the red bin sorting procedures for most. The changes should significantly increase the rate at which filled holds and returned items reach their destination. The recommendations will be released to all staff on August 20, with an implementation date of October 1.

Staff Development Day Updates – Milissa Copeland Staff Development Day 2019 will be held on October 14. Staff Day is a required day of work for all full-time staff members. Half-time and part-time staff members are encouraged but not required to attend. Due to restricted parking at this year’s venue, car pooling will be organized and encouraged. Staff day starts at 8 AM, and late arrivals will need to make up that time later in the week if they are hourly employees or take AVL if they are overtime exempts. Half-time employees may attend half-day shifts from 8-1 or 12-4, which both include lunch. They may also choose to work the entire day. 8 hours of make-up development will be required for all full time staff who do not attend. Part-time staff who register and do not attend will need to make up 4 hours. More information should be forthcoming around August 17.
Floating AS2 Guidelines - Risa The floating AS2 has been hired and will be available to fill in at other locations once she has completed her shelving training, around the end of September. General availability will be full-day shifts Tuesday through Saturday. She should be available to work most evenings if scheduled well in advance. Libraries should still attempt to fill gaps by shifting the local schedule and calling upon neighboring libraries before requesting floating AS2 coverage.
Genre Update Project – Clyde Herrod, Devin McGhee, CAT The RETRACK workgroup will run from September 2019 through May 2020. They will examine and rewrite the genre headings used by Carl and the catalog to make them more reflective of modern genre divisions. The work will be split up into three three-month phases covering the overarching genres of social fiction, science fiction, and domestic fiction. The workgroup will be looking for three public service staff members (Access or Engagement) for each of the three phases and one public service staff member to serve as a core member for all nine months of the work group. Recommendations for public service members should be sent to Cataloging as soon as possible. |
