Gift / In-Kind Donations & MLS Friend’s Appreciation – Heather (DVS) National Friends Week Oct. 21-27, DVS Friends celebration Oct. 24 at Northwest. DVS asks that libraries do displays on friendship to promote and thank the Friends. The theme of the celebration is “Things that just go together.” Email pictures of your display to [email protected] Friends Fall Membership Drive will be from October 1 to mid-November. New Gift/Donation cards will be sent out Sep. 21. Starting Oct. 1 customers will no longer have to go online to fill out the donation forms.

Signage for Closing – Risa Closing signs can be posted 7 days before a closing.

Commission Meeting discussion - Julie Managers only provide water and coffee for Commission Meetings. Managers welcome the Commission and provide updates of programs and any new happenings at the library. This should not be longer than 2 to 5 minutes. Staff can present the information about the library. Manager should attend Commission meeting at their library or have someone from their library attend if they can’t. Managers are encouraged to attend other Commission meetings as their schedules allow.

Solicitation at the Library – Risa Managers decided that solicitation would not be allowed at the libraries but petitioning would be allowed.

Quarterly Performance Development discussion – Julie Managers discussed the quarterly performance review and shared some of the issues they and their staff had in completing them. Time was a major issue with access managers having a larger number of direct reports than other supervisors. Mangers will review their direct reports reviews to start the calibration process.

Department Reports:
Transistional housing—City Rescue Mission and the Carver Center can be used as valid address for customers in obtaining library cards. Other transitional housing sites may be added later. Access meetings—please have a representative from your library attend if possible. Managers are welcome to attend anytime.
CIS will take WA phones on Oct. 1. CIS took 65% of system calls in August 7,200 of 11,000 and 430+ emails. Please have your library send CIS list of book club titles so they can answer questions and reserve those titles for customers without have to refer them to each library.
Graphic Novel project ongoing with more recalls for reclassification coming. Launchpad group will be meeting next week to discuss what we want to do with the Launchpads will currently have. No new Launchpads will be ordered. Playaway promotional material is available, posters, lanyards, and car connectors.
Outcome workgroups continuing to meet. Minimal outcome statements have been developed. Summer Reading has begun planning for next year. Theme for SR will revolve around the Maurice Sendak exhibit that will be DN next summer.
Outreach attended Septemberfest and reported 6,000 attendees. The hula hoop Spoticus was a big hit. Staff who want to volunteer for events should notify both LaVetta and Kelly in Outreach.
Please remind staff to make sure all their events are published each month. There will be less reminders and Marketing will pull all published events for the calendar. Please make sure you have an attendance number entered for each program even if the number is zero.
Special Collection items do not circulate and cannot be reserved. Some items may be sent out to other libraries in system on a case by case basis. Please have staff contact Special Collections for customers. Special Collections phone number is 3859.
