As many of you may remember, in 2018 we received a Google grant to purchase Chromebooks and hotspots for use in programming which could then be checked out to the customers at the end of the class so that the participants could practice what they learned before the next class. There was a focus on technology basics and workforce development for these programs. The grant period has ended and we now have the ability to utilize the Chromebooks and hotspots in a different manner.

We put together a workgroup to review options consisting of Barbara Beasley (ED), Christopher Stofel (CH), Rondia Banks (BE), Cameron Smith (CL), Tim Spindle (CIS) and Erin Bedford (PSA). Our charge was to standardize the way that we circulate these items. We also worked with IT to ensure that everything that we suggested would work with CarlX. Thank you to the members of the workgroup for their work on this!

The workgroup had suggested making some changes to how we handled the Chromebooks and hotspots and those changes will be implemented starting on October 4th. Those changes include having hotspots be reservable through the ILS and the ability to move them between locations and allowing the ability to checkout and take home a Chromebook without attending a program at the locations who have the Chromebooks. If you are interested in more specifics about the changes please review the attached information sheet.
