Public Services Minutes - December 03, 2020
Mask requirements/mandates (LaVetta)
Mask requirement mandates and Curbside + - questions on Mask Mandate – If the local mask mandate is stricter than the mandate of OKC, which MLS follows, libraries should follow the local mandate. Edmond should follow the Edmond mandate. Additional signage is not needed at this time. Staff educating our patrons on the mask mandate policy is most effective and we now have legal documentation to require a mask.
Curbside Plus discussion, Chris – interested in learning how it is going at our locations. Discussion followed about their work processes.
- Anne, IT – first week 2400 computer usage even with Holiday closure and closing early on Wednesday. We have the data that the service is needed and used.
- Larry – what is best for most of the public we serve. Happy to come again, thanks for the feedback.
MeeScan demo and discussion, Erin Bedford & Anne Fischer
Risa and Erin were present for demonstration of this APP at PLA. The MeeScan APP allows customers to use their own device to check out materials. Anne received a quote for the APP prior to pandemic closure – but in our current PHE use of the APP could diminish interface with customers. Anne worked with the company on the development of app continued. Anne will release the staff side first to give LM opportunity to work locally with the device, testing out the capabilities and develop a workflow. Discussion about the Chat feature in Teams – may want to continue to use Teams for that feature. The development team worked closely with MLS and our APP will have an image of Spoticus running to the car -developed by Rick George prior to his retirement. Anne is prepared to send links to LM today. The APP be specific to MLS.
Learning Paths – Milissa Copeland
Learning Paths have been launched. L&D, Videos can be paused so that staff can return later. Multiple features are available – team members can be assigned learning paths together for team discussions. Staff will need supervisor approval before enrolling in any Path. Questions? Could be on a variety of subjects on staff’s competency.
Rondia – Core Value pathways on the Intranet – appreciates the organization of the format. Staff are expected to complete a path on one of our Core Values. If not completed staff will limited on their PD. Staff have until October 2021 to complete their learning path. Staff could complete more than one learning path, but this does not automatically mean an “exceed” on our PD system. Exceeding in any competency means a level of comprehension as well as demonstration of the competency in their work. Should LM have any questions or requests for pathways that might benefit staff, please send to Milissa.
Break until 3:22 PM
PD System Changes Discussion, Mark – please refer to the meeting structure email on 11/24 from K. Hoffman on how to access and record the PD meetings – please review, if you have not. One tip, is when you click begin, look at the employee list – as you can filter for accurate staff representation. Get in, look around and test it out. The onus of recording and tracking has now shifted from the staff to the supervisor. Staff no longer have an employee input in the month-to-month meetings tracking. You have the authority to ask staff to create a report monthly – activity reports were previously required. Supervisors/Managers can require an activity report from staff as it does assist with mid-point and annual.
Meetings are required – frequency of meetings is optional. Can go to every 6-weeks or bi-monthly. Make sure you are being clear with staff as to expectations moving forward – some may choose to use a template – Mark will further clarity from HUM regarding use of templates.
Dare to Lead Wrap Up
Cannot selectively numb emotions – numbing vulnerability means you numb joy. Practice Gratitude, honor what is ordinary in our lives.
Big take away – Mark reminded himself that it is okay to lean in and acknowledge his vulnerability without having the answer. Leaning in and not running away, allows him to be in the moment with his staff/charge. Way to keep moving forward.
LaVetta – concept of getting curious. Learned a lot about how to be inquisitive without putting people on the spot. On the flip side, Unclear is Unkind. (From Brene Brown, Dare to Lead)
Risa – please continue to Weed and box materials to the sorting site.
