Blurb

Would you like to use a description from the Blurb Bank?:
No, I'll create my own blurb.
Program Description:
Have you ever wanted to make it snow in September? Or create your own mini tornado in a bottle? Come to the library to make your own weather! We’ll also be using the app “Green Screen by Do Ink” to make our own weather forecasts like the meteorologists on TV. We’ll be learning about weather with fun, hands-on activities. It’s all about weather and you’re in control!

Program Justification

Yes
Does the program fit the goals of the MLS?:
Yes
How & why does this program meet the goals of the MLS?:
One of the themes for "August-September-October" is "Weather Smarts." This program is focused on learning about weather through hands-on experiments. Also one of the core values of MLS is the commitment to learning as enjoyment. The tweens will enjoy exploring not only how to make fake snow and a tornado in a bottle, but also have fun experimenting with green screen technology through the app "Green Screen by Do Ink."
Which Strategic Plan Response/Goals does this program meet?:
Satisfy Curiosity: Your libraries are centers that offer access to civic, cultural and community enrichment opportunities.
Why will this program be successful?:
This program allows for the tweens to be both creative and analytical.
How will success be measured/determined?:
I will measure success by attendance and interest from the participants during the program.

Yes, order through RFP or shop locally for additional supplies.
Supply/Shopping List:
For Weather Forcasting: one of the iPads (have) Green Screen app on one of the iPads-$2.99 Green sheet (have at home) Tornado: 15 plastic bottles (will begin saving) dish washing liquid (have) glitter (have) Fake Snow: 15 diapers 15 plastic bags (have)
Final Comments:
I think it will be really fun. I've already started playing with the green screen app on my phone (although I think it would be best if we used an iPad) and it's pretty easy to use. I think the kids will enjoy watching themselves make a forecast. I wanted to include the fake snow and tornado so they could take something home and we have the opportunity to talk about those weather concepts.
