Program Justification

Yes
Does the program fit the goals of the MLS?:
Yes
How & why does this program meet the goals of the MLS?:
This program combines entertainment, cultural awareness, and community into one program. By watching anime, eating Japanese snacks, sometimes making Japanese crafts, and discussing manga, anime, and cosplay, attendees are entertained while learning about Japanese culture and values. Anime fans generally form a tight-knit community, and this program fosters that community between attendees as well as between attendees and the library. Anime Club promotes a welcoming environment and promotes access to anime related books, DVDs, and activities that are available in the library system. The program also fosters creativity and innovation by encouraging cosplay and by providing artistic opportunities such as origami, drawing pencils and paper, and by using attendee artwork on our flyers for the club.
Which Strategic Plan Response/Goals does this program meet?:
Satisfy Curiosity: Visitors explore their interests using the variety of information at the library.
Why will this program be successful?:
Anime is popular among tweens, teens, and adults. This program allows fans of anime to come together to engage in activities they love with like-minded people.
How will success be measured/determined?:
Success will be measured by the number of attendees, their enjoyment and enthusiasm for the program, and the number of returning attendees.

Final Comments:
This program has been ongoing for most of this year. It has grown and has a core group of loyal attendees with frequent additional or occasional attendees. This group has grown close, and I feel that this is a valuable program for the library to provide. We spend $10 or less each week, which would be approximately $40 a month, or $480 a year at the absolute most. Most weeks we spend less than $10, but we can sometimes go up to $10. RM C
