Program Description:
Brunch and Learn: Come enjoy some light refreshments and learn about the Foster Care System. There are thousands of children currently in need of foster care services in the Metropolitan Library System's service area. Whether you have ever considered fostering a child yourself, are interested in adoption services, or just want to know more about this program, OKDHS employees will present information about what the foster care program is and how you can be involved. Library staff will discuss what resources the library provides to support foster and traditional families.

Program Justification
Is a program the best way to meet the expressed need or present information?:
Yes
Does the program fit the goals of the MLS?:
Yes
How & why does this program meet the goals of the MLS?:
Mission: We grow smarter communities, one person at a time.-- This includes foster care children & the families who support them. Vision: To be the community’s hub for critical thinking, creative problem-solving, and lifelong enrichment.--We want people to look at the library as a place where they can find the information they need to make decisions, and to be involved in children's lives even if they are not in traditional family situations, such as in foster care. By presenting information about foster services and what the library can do to support those families, the library is making that personal connection and making them a priority. 20-Year Goal: By 2035, every person in the community will use a library service. --Again, we want foster families and children in foster settings to be in the library because of the Core Value: Library Members First Every person in the Community is a member of the Library, and we are committed to their success and to providing them the highest quality service.
Which Strategic Plan Response/Goals does this program meet?:
Ensure a Welcoming Experience: Visitors are welcomed into an atmosphere of hospitality, exemplary service, and friendly interaction.
Why will this program be successful?:
I believe we will be successful because our community has members that are more affluent and are interested in volunteer opportunities and supporting children. We are also located near Bennett Fertility Institute, and may have several families trying to make a decision between adoption, fostering a child, and fertility services.
How will success be measured/determined?:
Attendance and participant feedback. Additionally, I see this as a community partnership with OKDHS.
