Program Justification

Yes
Does the program fit the goals of the MLS?:
Yes
How & why does this program meet the goals of the MLS?:
The DIY Laundry Soap program aligns with our commitment to learning as enjoyment. The program will allow library members of the community to share information and learn a new skill in a relaxed and welcoming environment. This program meets the goal of learning as enjoyment by providing a fun and creative way to learn at the library. Attendees will not only learn how to make their own laundry soap and fabric softener, but also be instructed on how and where to find more tips and tricks for saving time and money in the laundry room.
Which Strategic Plan Response/Goals does this program meet?:
Satisfy Curiosity: Visitors explore their interests using the variety of information at the library.
Why will this program be successful?:
This program falls under the theme of “Money Smarts” for this quarter. With Almonte being in a lower income neighborhood, providing information for families to save on their monthly budget is a much needed service. I am also looking forward to encouraging participants to share information with each other; therefore providing a place for community members to form relationships.
How will success be measured/determined?:
Success will be measured and observed by feedback from library members during the question and answer session following the DIY demonstration. I will be providing a selection of DIY and budgeting books available for attendees to check out. The amount of books checked out will assist in measuring the success of the program.
