Policy

The Organizational Care for Employees policy provides guidance for how the Metropolitan Library System (MLS) handle recognition and remembrance for Employees who pass away during their service to MLS.

Regulations

  1. When a current employee of MLS dies, MLS will purchase a tree or bush to be planted at the location of the employee’s work or at another appropriate location in the system, as deemed by MLS and city regulations. When an exterior item is not an option, an interior plant or commemorative object may be considered.
  2. DVS will work with MTC and the Executive Director on the selection and planting of the item. DVS will coordinate a plan with MTC and the appropriate location/department for maintenance of the item.
  3. DVS and the Executive Director will reach out to the family of the deceased to coordinate a moment where family and colleagues can gather to plant the tree and honor the deceased.
  4. DVS will work with Collection Development and the Executive Director to select a memorial book and card which will be signed by colleagues and leadership and given to the family.
  5. This policy does not include retired, former employees, or volunteers of MLS.
