Facilities Maintenance Related Projects

Northwest Library Window Shades

Work has begun and they have completed every task except for hanging the shades. The shades are approximately 4-6 weeks out from delivery, and completion.

Village Library Water Issue

Initial assessment completed by Terracon Engineering. Humidity levels were found to be high. Steve is working to set up a meeting with the City of the Village to discuss the findings and next steps.

Midwest City Public Restroom Renovation

Bid awarded to Cord Construction and work has begun. We accepted a change order from Cord Construction Services for $1,835 to install an isolation/shut-off valve line for the restrooms. Demolition is complete and new isolation valves have been installed which will help with current project timeline and long-term maintenance as any water issues with the bathroom can be isolated without impacting water to the entire building.

Downtown Library

Project to include column coverings up to 3 feet for protection from chair and table damage, along with painting of columns to ceiling tile. These projects are currently on hold and will need to be re-budgeted/amended for FY2021. Additionally, the City of Oklahoma City recently shared design work for the purposes of adding signage to the exterior of the library building facing Hudson Avenue to make it easier for the public to locate and identify that this is a library building. With regards to the Downtown Library, Dennis McCullough is also meeting with contractors on Thursday, July 9 at the Downtown Library to further discuss adding a security alarm system.

Downtown Library Café

The DTaino Bakery will not return to the Downtown library due to COVID-19 shutdown they have decided to cease operations due to economic challenges.  We received a notification of bankruptcy proceedings. We are working with the Bank on an inventory of non-library owned equipment. There are no plans to address the occupancy of this space currently due to COVID-19.

Fleet

New box truck was delivered in late June 2020 and will be put into service soon. Additional repair work will be scheduled for existing box trucks to ensure they are in working order.

Fleet Safety/Maintenance Monitoring

Telematics software has been installed on most of the fleet vehicles. Staff will be trained on how to use it soon.

Wright Library

The remodel is currently on hold with the City of Oklahoma City due to the volume of current projects. Funding is available for remodel and it is currently intended that the work be complete before the end of the calendar year, but there is no specified timeline currently.

Capital Projects

New Del City Library

Construction/site work is in progress on SE 15th Street.  The new Library construction is scheduled for completion in December of 2020.  ADG is working on finalizing furniture selection schedule and finishes for the interior. Construction is progressing quickly, and the exterior of the building is nearly complete.

Temporary Bell Isle Library Location

Construction is underway. The project is a bit behind schedule due to a delay regarding the flooring/carpet. We have asked ADG/contractor to find another source for carpet to keep the project moving forward. We received a change order totaling $21,735.15 to address code requirements in the breakroom and issues identified in the public restrooms.  This will require an amendment to the FY2021 budget as projecting funding was initially budgeted in FY2020 and we have now crossed into a new fiscal year. Marketing is working on signage for the temporary Belle Isle Library. This was budgeted in FY2020 but due to timing this will require a budget amendment for FY2021 around $10,000. The timeline for the closure of the current Belle Isle Library and the reopening of the temporary Belle Isle Library has been changed due to construction delays. This situation continues to evolve and to change.

Belle Isle Renovation/Addition

Steve is meeting with and escorting potential bidders through the library so that they can evaluate the project in order to receive the best bids possible. The bids are to be opened July 15th. There will not be a public groundbreaking for this project due to COVID-19 Concerns.  There will be a photo opportunity with the Mayor’s office to recognize the initiation of this project, but this will not be open to the public/advertised. A contract will be awarded at the August 4th City Council Meeting. Construction is estimated to begin by September 2020 at the latest.

New Almonte Library

Interviews are scheduled with the City of Oklahoma City and the Library to review a short-list of four interested architect firms on July 23rd.

Facilities Access Control/Hardware

Bid was awarded to Orion Security for the install/configuration of the hardware/software integration for the new Del City Library at the May Commission Meeting.  Open Options is the software chosen which provides for licenses to expand to other libraries and add additional doors over time.  Funds are in the FY2021 budget to address access control at the Communities Libraries and other locations. Once in place, building access can be handled remotely at locations with this new technology.
