  • Connect guests w/ needs including finding doctors, childcare issues, help w/ SoonerCare, Tefla?, navigating transition services, community activities, summer camps for children w/ special needs including funding, IEP advocacy, SIBshops (wanting to relaunch across state), bilingual services w/ Spanish 

  • Sensory Bags—part of community capacity building 

  • Supporting minorities w/ disabilities coalition part of planning group 

  • Programming/outreach- Metro will be at WovenLife for Fall Festival 

  • Parent scholarships 

  • Nov. 2- Caregiver conference 

  • Lifespan respite voucher program 

  • Supplemental formula program (formula, boost, ensure) 

  • Sensory Bags- Cultural awareness committee doing library overview visit to see what Metro has to help people know what we offer. Other part is sensory bags. Coalition and Metro (Kristin) working on landing page based on a survey coalition did—potential guests didn’t use library as they didn’t feel differently abled where welcome. Marketing going to create landing page once information is ready. 

  • Lunch and Learns for autism foundation coming – accessibility and 3D printer possibilities for differently abled guests;  

  • Teresa looking at grant to purchase adaptive equipment for locations and LBM. 

2:05 Young at Art – Judith Matthews 

  • Caldecott winners 

  • Dec. 18- Jan 17 exhibit will be up DN in atrium 

  • DN wants to do vinyl walk, will go through paintings 

  • Inspiration lab/Exploration lab, hour at a time through certain days of break 

  • Storytimes 

  • Consider doing Caldecott winner display at your location 

  • Handouts available for exhibit available in Nov. For locations 

  • Share comments of favorite Caldecott and why it’s important- they'll go up in exhibit. Send comments to Judie Matthews. 

  • 30 pieces of art 

  • Art kits coming out soon – Oklahoma Contemporary 

2:15 1000 Books Before Kindergarten 

  • Info on Intranet 

  • Downloads and docs (brochure, coloring sheet, parent letter, sticker passport) 

  • Supplies – in supply catalog (request bookmarks, puppets, stickers, bags) 

  • Customer/guest page goes through prize and goal information 

  • Can also be done in Beanstack directly 

  • Started approximately Fall 2020 

  • List of potential books to read, may need to re-evaluate 

2:25 OES Updates 

  • Encourage families to bring children to 123 or younger storytimes as developmentally appropriate. 

Sensory Bags – Kristin 

  • Includes fidget spinner, foam earplugs, head phones, pamphlets, marketing working on materials, alcohol wipes. 

  • Staff expected to check for items upon return, don’t need to clean—just add a new alcohol wipe 

  • Will be cataloged but for in library use only. Need stats to see need and use. 

  • 988 has fidget spinners for free 

  • If piece needs to walk away with family to provide great guest experience, that’s fine. OES can provide more. 

  • No fines on items. 

  • Commercial coming to welcome differntly 

  • Handouts for today on Sharepoint 

Virtual Early Childhood ProgramsKristin 

  • Guests have asked for virtual storytimes 

  • Discussion in group, do we have rotation, since Maddie left no one is doing. 

  • Robert shared DN continues to have regular guests at storytime and asks for virtual 

  • Amy has scheduled hybrid programs and no one showed up, taking break for 123 P w/me; may need better/more marketing 

  • Live action part of VR program is what people want. 

  • Can’t pre-record storytime showing book due to copyright, could do flannel board or music, Mother Goose on Loose 

  • Share Amy’s program w/ DN guests, will revisit potential rotation at later meeting 

Fall Booksale VolunteersKristin  

  • Heidi asked Kristin to share flyer, in SP 

  • Consider putting flyers up on boards at your location 

  • Many volunteers needed

2:55 Summer Reading Debrief 

What worked? 

  • ED-Prize books early at ED helped a lot, everything went well. SugarFree Allstar kickoff great 

  • NA went well at MC, BE, 

  • Great volunteers 

  • Elephant & Piggie again for Lyric next year 

  • Violin ensemble very popular especially with older, was nice break from younger programs 

  • DC had great experience with adult daycare and all performers 

  • Groovemeant- better this year, still seemed a little too much talking, 

What didn’t work? 

  • Vendor issues at NW – science museum no show, museum of osteology unprofessional plus charging extra for mileage, local programming done at DC 

  • SR programming- Programs from the Summer Reading catalog are optional. Locations may choose to create all of their programs in-house. Science Museum Oklahoma issues 

  • Multiple issues with Museum of Osteology  

  • Everyone contacting museums was difficult for some. Single point of contact would work better 

  • National Park Ranger program not great this year, didn’t get back to people. Depending on which ranger came to do the program, the quality varied greatly. 

 

What could we do differently next year? 

  • Single point of contact for museums from extra SR committee 

  • Have zoo if possible 

  • State park rangers for next year – Roman Nose 

  • Scissortail- have their rangers come to library 

  • OSU Extension animals-bugs 

  • Share out popular programs among locations and replicate 

  • Title swap in training – reach out if you need certain titles  

  • Classic titles- had been asked for in CLs, seem to no longer be popular. Let Teresa know if you want them. 

  • ED- tweens most popular, Dogman, Lego, Star Wars 

3:25 Share Time 

  • Teresa- shared that locations may keep leftover SR books for outreach events. Put all outreach events in Library Market, for private (like apartment complex, school) publish and mark private. 

  • Schedule of return book items- over 10 or nothing let Teresa Matthews know. Trying to space out to save MTC! 

  • BE - Boofest , apple pie time Nov  

  • AL- in church gym, doing program with church for Halloween 

  • DC- playdough party (fun and easy), made own dough, sent dough home with some people 

  • VI – Apple pie time at Crossing Community Center 

  • Any supplies donated from stores- work w/ Heather Zeoli in DVS for tracking and letters of in-kind donations to place 

  • ED- Ye Olde Chess Faire -chess LARP and pool noodle jousting (Andrew), Halloween Storytime; Itty Bitty Dance Party (125 people) last month—Brittany does. 

  • NW- Club format- art smart club, Becky- Tess does storytimes, Kenzie’s doing Monster Mash in October, Okla Wildlife Batty program,  

  • If you have extra take home kits- send to Kellie Riha at OUT, she’ll bring to assisted living locations 

  • New Spoticus mascot costumes ordered, should be here for January. They will live DN—OES will let you know when they arrive. 

  • Pods of outreach equipment being planned (wagons, canopies, tables, flags) 

  • SO- Talk like a pirate day 

  • MC- Book Tasting, Homeschool meet and greet (very popular); Monday am storytime going well (10 and 11 am on Mondays); 123 going well; Way Fun Wednesday; Lego Club in lobby; Crafternoons in summer popular, After School Art Hour once a month, Dinovember, Homeschool program Q&A, Dogman Day
