Updated Safety Manuals

Jeff Cover and outside consultant Jason Bullard with Anderson Safety provided an overview of the various sections of the new safety manuals.

  • All locations should have received two new safety binders.
  • The new safety manuals include information about various safety topics.
  • The larger of the two binders includes information that applies to all locations.
  • The smaller of the two binders includes more location-specific information such as each location’s emergency action plan and hazard communications plan.
  • It was noted that this is a reference manual for use in case there are questions about procedures or some aspect of safety. It is not meant to be read from cover to cover.
  • Managers should print off safety data sheets for items on chemical inventory lists and add to binder.
  • The chemical inventory list included in the individual binders is last year’s list and should be updated with the current list for each location.
  • SDS are updated regularly and managers should check regularly for updates.
  • Managers should write in the location of the SDS in the space provided in the binder.
  • Managers should ensure that staff have access to SDS at all times.
  • The physical safety manual does not need to be available to staff at all times.
  • The general safety manual will be uploaded to the Intranet.
  • We do not need to maintain SDS on chemicals used solely by cleaning services.
