OES Updates
Winter Reading - Kristin – shared statistics, number of readers and program completions are ahead of last year at this point, social media has been very engaging with lots of posts from the community
1000 Books Before Kindergarten – Kristin – this initiative is ongoing and information is available on our website at https://www.metrolibrary.org/1000books, Kristin will be providing a refresher for Children’s Services staff
Community Literacy Center programs – Emily – events were moved back to virtual by CLC, individual libraries should continue to coordinate with CLC staff
Folk and Traditional Arts partnership grant – Emily – initial interviews with the artists are up on the website and Facebook under Being Oklahoma: Exploring the Threads That Define us, this is a partnership grant with Oklahoma Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts, programs/take home kits/displays celebrating their work and fields will continue through the spring and summer
Systemwide Juneteenth efforts – Emily – there is a group working on systemwide take home kits and communication will be coming soon
Sharing and Programming Discussion
LU – Tai Chi has started, Whodunit book club at HR with adult day center, programs getting scheduled at LU, fidget quilt
DN – traditional Indigenous medicine, Indigenous art event in March, looking at hybrid programming options with streaming, panel discussion with Black and Missing Foundation (has documentary on HBO) and Matriarch, LitFest planning, Indigenous STEM storytime, future events for adults survey, passive programming is successful DN, escape rooms coming, movie night bundle is building up regular audience, thousand paper cranes take home kit
SCR – historic church tour to support religious diversity programming initiative
ED – “guess how many” fishbowl for Summer Reading display, Goodwill computer class teaching basic computer skills and resume workshop, participating in Heard on Hurd and Edmond Vibes outreach events, self care DIY kit, Metro Writes happening every other Tuesday March-May, Black History Month, take home kits to senior centers, monthly book clubs, moon phases take home kit
SO – book club is going well and attendees enjoy being back in the library, Tai Chi, take home kits are still in high demand, trying out more passive programs, movie boxes personally curated by staff
AL – Chinese New Year, reflection/projection kit, National Forest Day, working with senior centers for outreach
OUT – Lunar New Year event at Myriad Gardens, railway program at assisted living center, if libraries have any left over take home kits Kelley would love to take them to assisted living centers
JN – puzzle swap, book club meeting next week with full registration
DC – customers asked for more sewing take home kits, Winter Reading has been a lot of fun, blind date with a book display, in-person book club starts next week
DVS – booksale is coming, please help recruit volunteers for sale, we will have in-person teen volunteers (with virtual options) for Summer Reading with opportunities opening in March before Spring Break
PSA – notary services in process
CH – book club featuring BIPOC authors starting this month, Equinox and Earth Day take home kits, curriculum for computer basics classes in collaboration with RE, tech help, community coffee, DIY incense kit, Lupercalia party
VI – continuing take home kits, continuing events with Natural Grocers, 8 weeks of yoga beginning March 12, would like information about Tai Chi presenters
RE – quarterly book boxes for adults, all Black towns talk with Dr. Carlos King, Tai Chi starting, had jazz program in-person this week, Pet Pantry visits, NASA grant board games take home kits
NP – Novels at Night virtual book club, passive programming in meeting room, seed exchange, yoga on Fridays in March and April, Earth Day Bingo
BE – Coffee and Crafts with seniors, MLS Studios open in afternoons since December, computer coaching, monthly book club, recommending guests to COWIB services
WA – dance classes with RACE, K-pop dance, jazz, Page Against the Machine book club
OES – request more Winter Readings mugs through Intranet and allow plenty of time for requests to be filled, send chipped mugs back to Teresa, more information coming soon about supplies for Summer Reading, continuing to look at offering books for adults in SR prizes, remember to enter your outreach events in Library Market, check outreach kits to make sure contents are in good condition and let Teresa know if you need anything
SPP – thank you to those who have contributed to social media, Kellie is helping coordinate things with Marketing right now, social media contributions needed for this spring, double issue of Info magazine for June/July
