Earth Day Art Contest Officially Open!

Hello again! It's your friendly neighborhood Staff Association!

As stated in last Friday's post, Staff Association is hosting an Earth Day Art Contest. Earth Day has been observed annually on April 22, since its inception in 1970. It's one of the largest secular observances in the world. It's a time to think about your impact on the world and how to create a better world for the future.

The theme for this year is "Learn character from trees, values from roots, and change from leaves."

This year, to not only help us as a system (such as a tree or other plant), but to help us as community Staff Assocation has decided to host an Earth Day Art Contest, not only to strech our creative thinking skills, but to build the bonds in our communities.

To participate, download the provided leaf template below, find a leaf template online, or find a leaf (or two!) around your branch. Then, working as a team with your department/office/branch/etc, decorate the leaf or leaves in a way that you feel collectively represents yourselves and/or reflects the theme of this year’s contest. Upload a picture of your creation(s) to the entry form below so that we can create a tree reflecting the unique makeup of Metro. There may be multiple entries per department, but each must be a collective effort of at least two people.  You have from now until April 10 to upload your entries.

Entries will be shared on the intranet and staff can vote for their top 3 favorites. The 3 entries with the highest number of votes will receive a prize pack of “green” items. One additional winner will be selected by Staff Association as best fulfilling this year’s theme. Winners will be announced following the April Staff Association Meeting on Earth Day, April 22.

3/26 Clarification: Staff Association (SA) exists to support, engage, and advocate for all MLS staff. We are a voluntary association not formally affiliated with the Metropolitan Library System; as such, participation in SA events, tasks, and projects is not compensable. All business except for one monthly meeting of the Executive Council is to be conducted off the clock.
