Metro Library Information

Library Managers are currently the only staff in local branches with access to Edelweiss, but access will be expanded to include other supervisors. The Weeding Macro may still be used to supplement Edelweiss, as needed.

Collection Development will be moving Spanish language materials across branches to help increase the overall circulation utilizing transfer cards.  Selectors will place a hold for the transfer, it will arrive at branches and need to be shared with the engagement point of contact.  The location will be updated in CarlX and require printing labels for the books. Use the same labels as with collectionHQ.

Welcome, LaVetta Dent

Introductions

Pauline introduced Kirsten Bryson, Collection Services Manager, who joined MLS about a month ago

Dennis McCullough, Director of Facilities Maintenance and Fleet Operations, joined the meeting and the group introduced one another to him.

Lost and Found, Mark Schuster

Thank you to Rondia Banks, Lindsey Bryan, Todd Podzemny, Mark Schuster and Angel Suhrstedt for work on this project to clarify the parameters.  Each local jurisdiction may have specific requests for handling items. Best practices were reviewed explaining the logic behind the procedures.

Safety Training- Dennis McCullough

Library Managers were asked to help with planning and scheduling fire drills and other safety trainings for individual branches and told to anticipate an email regarding coordinating these.

Budgeting and Tracking-Mark Schuster

PSLT has been drafting a budgeting tool that incorporates the most useful features from those currently in use into one tool to be reviewed by Charisse Dye, FBA.

The budgeting process begins in February and Engagement Managers and their staff should be developing a 5160 budget proposal for July 2020-June 2021 to be presented to LM.  This provides a broad view of the upcoming year regarding programming costs instead of the lump sum approach and allows transparency during the budgeting process to ensure a general plan for the funds is in place. LMs can ask RD to attend a programmer’s meeting, if needed.

New Employee (NEO) Training Wishlist, Risa Sargent

What do new employees need to know before they show up for work? For example: how important it is to lock time sheets, dress code, call in, severe weather

Recommendations to the Regional Directors list by November 24th

Meeting Room Reminders, Erin Bedford

It is best practice to not allow outside groups to keep items in buildings overnight, even if booked for multiple days.  Libraries would be unable to meet the need if every group asked and can’t accept responsibility for any items left, especially high dollar items, due to buildings being entered by outside contractors.

Library Priorities, Erin Bedford

  1. Staff on public floor and on desks
  2. Programming—takes into consideration public floor and desk coverage needs
  3. Outreach---should only be done when there is coverage for the first two priorities

Programming and Outreach could flip flop but would be a conversation between the library manager and the engagement manager.

Location Updates

Library Managers shared happenings at branches and updates on upcoming events.

Department Updates

Department heads shared the latest updates and information regarding departments from the PSDM meeting held November 7th.
