Our Day at the Zoo children's book!!

Hopefully your manager has already talked with each of you about our fabulous partnership with the OKC Zoo, but I wanted to post this on the intranet so you can refer to it if you need. On Monday, February 27, Metro Library will be launching our latest partnership w​ith the Oklahoma City Zoo and Botanical Garden: free passes to the Zoo when checking out the book “Our Day at the Zoo”. This children’s book was written by our own Kristin Williamson of Outreach, illustrated by Rick George in Marketing, and published by our new publishing arm- Park Hudson Press. When a member checks out the book, they will receive a voucher for four free general admission to the OKC Zoo! This program will end on March 31, 2018.

Each library will receive their books and vouchers around the end of the week of February 20. (Please, please do not put the books out until Monday morning, February 27). The vouchers should be kept in the money drawer and should be given out only when a member checks out the book via a library staff member. If members check out the book through self-check, they must show both the book and their receipt to a staff member the same day it is checked out. All promotional material and the catalog list the details to members that the vouchers will be given via checkout from a physical staff member. The vouchers will also be numerically coded for each library. 

Both the Zoo and the Library will also be doing a large marketing push on this. Here are some of the details: 

Monday, 2/27:

• Book displays go up
• Social Media ads throughout the week
• Email blast to active members
• Email blast to Zoo friends

Wednesday, 3/1

• Two Day Social Media swap with OKC Zoo- OKC Zoo's Facebook and Instagram page is "taken over" by the Library and vice versa. Three posts featuring pictures of Zoo's animals and the books that the library recommends, and posts on our site featuring the book characters and books the characters would be reading.

Thursday, 3/2

• Last Day of Social Media swap
• 10am storytime at the Downtown Library featuring “Our Day at the Zoo” and special guest

Promotional Material:

• 24x36 poster for every library
• 11x17 signs for every library
• Bookmarks
