Metro does not have a history of offering regular, quality programming at every location or of training staff to provide it. What professional development opportunities will the system offer to help staff become experts in programming for their specific age groups?

Your question underscores our need for a systematic way of approaching professional staff development activities. Of course, I cannot tell you too much about the training yet, since it will be based on our best-practice methods for developing, delivering, and assessing programming, all of which is still to be designed. I would guess that the Learning Experiences staff -- once hired -- will work in conjunction with other Library staff to create the standard process, which they will then share with all Library staff with the assistance of the Staff Learning and Development team. There will be an expectation that staff will update and further hone their skills, just as they can expect the Library to provide them with ongoing professional education.
Hope that helps.
