Manager Comments:
I think this could be a cool program, but I do have a few reservations - I want to make sure parents know how long henna can last on the skin (a week? two weeks?) Are there any allergic reactions to henna? For a presenter, you might email the other YA librarians for ideas. I used to get my eyebrows threaded at a little salon over on the west side of town called Naseem's Beauty Salon. I vaguely remember them having prices for henna tattoo applications (but this was a few years ago.) Their number is 720-7865.

Program Justification
Is a program the best way to meet the expressed need or present information?:
Yes
Does the program fit the goals of the MLS?:
Yes
How & why does this program meet the goals of the MLS?:
Targets a highly underserved group to promote new membership and member retention. Teaches appreciation for a culture and ethnic group that is prevalent in the area but often under-represented in media and programming while involving Playful Learning.
Which Strategic Plan Response/Goals does this program meet?:
Satisfy Curiosity: Your libraries are centers that offer access to civic, cultural and community enrichment opportunities.
Why will this program be successful?:
We have had many comments and requests for more tween programming, as they are a historically underserved group, too old for many of the children's programs, not old enough for the teen programs, and still young enough to have schedule space and high interest in library programming. This program explores a common tradition of an under-represented people group that is still well known enough to draw interest and ties in with spring break for the public schools.
How will success be measured/determined?:
attendance, participant enthusiasm and feedback
