Das Lied...

Glad to see you have Mahler's Das Lied at the top of your list.

Have you heard that Jonas Kaufmann is going to sing BOTH tenor and alto-baritone parts with the Vienna Philharmonic in Vienna and Paris later this spring? He's also going to sing the Four Last Songs of R. Strauss in another concert. He's recorded the Wesendock Lieder of Wagner, too. I hope these concerts will be recorded. I read that he said he's jealous of the women only getting to sing the last Abschied so he's getting his wish.

Rumor has it he's doing Isolde in drag for his 50th birthday.....just kidding......

When's he going to do Tristan? He'll be terrific in the third act fever scene.

He's done Othello but I've never cared for Othello though I keep hearing what a difficult role it is.
He brings all the color and shading of a first rate soprano, what I hardly ever hear outside of the bel canto style. His Werther from about 5 to 6 years ago is outstanding, available on DVD.

He is a God! Really one of the greats! I would love to see him do "Mild und leise" in drag! ;) I heard his recording of Wesendonck, and it is stunning. And you are so right about Tristan!
