Known as a technical wizard on the violin as well as an opera composer, Vivaldi was virtually unknown until a trove of his works were discovered in 1926.

I'm so glad to find a fellow Scholl fan in the system! His recording of the aria "Ah, ch'infelice sempre" is my favorite! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z39KxbbtCC0
The violinist Guliano Carmignola plays the Vivaldi concertos in a very muscular way that's not for the weak hearted. And there's the mezzo-soprano Cecilia Bartoli who takes no prisoners in this repertory. Both of them show Vivaldi in a light that's far removed from the "teaching pieces" for beginners that Baroque composers are often presented as being.
Jim, I hadn't heard of Carmignola before. I will definitely check into this! And, Bartoli is a force of nature!
