Blurb

Would you like to use a description from the Blurb Bank?:
No, I'll create my own blurb.
Program Description:
This bulletin board will be used for passive programming in the teen area. For example, a librarian could post a question, such as "What would your favorite literary character post as their Facebook status?", and teens can write down their answers and post them on the board using Post-It notes or, in the case of magnetic white boards, scraps of paper and magnets.
Primary Age Group:
Teen (ages 12-18)
Primary Event Type:
Displays & Promotions

Presenter

Will your program have a presenter?:
No presenter
Program Justification
Is a program the best way to meet the expressed need or present information?:
Yes
Does the program fit the goals of the MLS?:
Yes
How & why does this program meet the goals of the MLS?:
This program seeks to engage our teen customers on a new level. Maybe teens are hesitant to come to programming because they are shy, or the programs offered conflict with their schedule. This passive programming is always available, and they don't have to interact with strangers to participate. It is a way for teens to dip their toe into the water of becoming active at their library. It gives them a way to make their voices heard. And it relates the message that the library cares about them and what they have to say.
Which Strategic Plan Response/Goals does this program meet?:
Ensure a Welcoming Experience: Visitors are welcomed into an atmosphere of hospitality, exemplary service, and friendly interaction.
Why will this program be successful?:
This is basically an open invitation to write on the walls of the library (not the actual walls of course, but the bulletin board). What teen could resist that?
How will success be measured/determined?:
Number of responses we get to the questions/activities posted.
Program Engagement

Marketing

Is sufficient time available to have a Info Magazine Listing?:
No
Is sufficient time available to request MaC materials and display them for at least 2 weeks (45 days)?:
No

Community Engagement

How will you promote this event to the community?:
Create an in-Library Book Display or Exhibit
Up-sell the event with customers (verbally or with printed Marketing pieces)
What library resources and services will you connect to this program?:

This program needs no promotion via MaC materials or Info Magazine listings because it promotes itself by being on display in the library. We can connect just about any library resources we like to it, using it to tie into the collection, programs, databases, etc. as we craft new questions and activities for it.

Are volunteers needed?:
No

Supplies

Are supplies needed?:
Yes, order through RFP or shop locally for additional supplies.
Supply/Shopping List:
White board, http://www.amazon.com/dp/B010B1ROR4?psc=1 Markers Post-It notes -OR- Magnets
Final Comments:
Budget depends on whether we get a wall-mounted or free standing white board. The free standing ones are more expensive, and that is the number used above in the Projected Budget Amount. If a wall-mounted white board is used, the budget would be more like $50.
Are you ready for your supervisor to evaluate this program?:
