Construction Updates - October 15, 2014

GENERAL

  • The Construction Dept. continues to work with the City of OKC on a Capital Improvements list for MLS.  We submitted Draft 1 last week.
  • Todd Olberding issued Draft 0 to the AD-Team on October 1st.  Thanks to Denyvetta who suggested the addition of study rooms at RE.  Todd requests any suggestions to be sent to the Construction Dept.
  • Todd sent out a copy of Draft 0 to the library managers on October 14th.
  • As all of these requests have long range consequences, CON will be reviewing all suggested project with Donna, Kay, Karen, Anne and Lloyd before they are presented to the City of OKC.
  • While the city has not given a deadline for this information, it is expected soon.

BETHANY

  • MLS expects a call from the City of Bethany to schedule a meeting for information that was provided earlier.

CAPITOL HILL

  • MS+R & Guernsey Architects led MLS and the City of OKC through our first Schematic Design meeting on September 11th.  Since then, several more concepts and massing plans have been explored.   A copy of the “approved” concept plan and massing image are attached
  • The Schematic Design package, about 25% of the design process is due October 17th.
  • SCHEDULE NOTES
    1. The schedule calls for MLS to move out August 1, 2015, after ‘Summer Reading’.
    2. An updated schedule shows a “MOVE-IN” date of April 2017.  This should allow ‘2017 Summer Reading’ to be held in our new library. Construction will keep you advised.
  • The City of OKC continues to work on the securing the land needed for the expansion.   On October 7th, The Oklahoma City Council approved the purchase of all houses to the south and negotiations with the bank continue.
  • CON is working with staff to determine what need to be saved, sold, or scrapped.
  • The process of determining our temporary space need to continue.  The options range from 0 to about 7,000 sf.

EDMOND PARKING

  • The City of Edmond continues to work with St Mary’s church.
  • Edmond has hired a firm to conduct a Customer Service Survey.  MLS is working with Edmond to develop several questions addressing current and future library service needs.
  • Todd attended Edmond’s Capital Project Task Force Committee meeting on September 16th. They are working on a process to “identify & prioritize” the capital projects.  This process is expected to include public meetings, citizen surveys, and interviews with city staff and stakeholders. While a second library has been on the “list” for many years, MLS have a long ways to go.  Per the AD-Team meeting on September 24th, it was suggested MLS will need to review all capital project needs.  This will need to be done in conjunction with any request for Edmond funding.
