Encourage and assist efforts to provide for a new facility

Staff will continue to ensure a welcoming experience for current customers while assisting in the planning stages for a new building.

  • 2/14: MLS “formally” submitted a request to OKC for additional funding.  Per their response, we have advanced to the 2nd phase of a 5 step process and the Director of Construction Management believes design work will begin in late April
  • 3/14: A date of April 23 is set for MLS to formally present a request for additional funding for CH
  • 5/14: the City of Oklahoma City votes to fully fund the renovation of CH Library.
  • 6/14: MLS & OKC met to review CH Art procurement process.
  • 6/14: The Final Programming Report was issued on 6/10/14. OKC continues to review.
  • 7/14: The Guernsey Architects Contract Revisions were verbally approved.
  • 8/14: The Final Programming Report was approved. Revisions to the Guernsey Architect’s contract will be presented to the OKC City Council on 8/12/14. The Construction Budget has been finalized at $4,100,000, including abatement. The Economic Review Board is scheduled to review & approve the TIF Funding on 8/17/14.
  • 9/14: MS+R & Guernsey Architects led MLS and OKC through our 1st Schematic Design meeting. Several options for the layout of the interior library were discussed. It was agreed that the entry would be on the south side, facing the new parking lot. The work room is to be located on the west side to allow delivery access off of Hudson. Several exterior schemes were also presented. These, produced with a 3- D printer, moved from a more traditional to modern appearance.  An updated schedule shows a “MOVE-IN” date of March 2017 allowing Summer Reading 2017 to be held in our new library. OKC continues to work on the securing the land need for the expansion. The process of determining our temporary space needs continues. The options range 0 to about 7,000 sf. The schedule calls for MLS to move out after summer reading next year.
  • 11/14: Schematics made available for staff to view, along with furniture and color options
  • 12/14: Search for a temporary space begins, with a preference to secure site on 25th Street.
  • 2/15: Guernsey Architect’s issued the “Design Development Report” (DD) on 2/11. (Also called the “Preliminary Report”), to be presented to OKC for approval in early March.
  • 3/15: MLS continues negotiations with Templo de Albanza to lease their gym for the CH temporary location
  • 4/15: MLS signs lease with Templo de Albanza
