Advertising and Infomercial Update
As most of you know, we have been working on filming and producing a :30 minute informercial. Victoria highlighted it in ShelfLife this month, but I wanted to let you know some of the dates that it will be on. Hopefully by booking these so early out, they will have the name of it in the program guides instead of just "paid programming"!
Saturday, Dec. 8 at 12:30pm (KOCO ch.5)
Sunday, Dec. 29 at 4:30pm (KWTV ch. 9)
Saturday, Jan. 13 at 1pm (KOCO ch. 5)
Sunday, Jan 20 at 1pm (KOCO ch.5)
Here's a 2 minute sneak peak of the infomercial!
This month, we've been advertising and promoting our genealogy databases with:
* ad in the OKC Friday paper
* MLS webpage slider
* Social media advertising
* Blog post
* Google Adwords campaign (click here for the key search words)
So far, the Google Adwords campaign has been the most effective, although a new Facebook ad campaign starts tomorrow. As of today, 11/19, the landing page that the adwords campaign takes you to is the 5th most visited landing page on our website.
#1=main page with 38,428 sessions
#2=Edmond Library with 2,128 sessions
#3=Downloads with 1,687 sessions
#4=Jobs with 1,482 sessions
#5=Genealogy adwords with 1,396 sessions
The other methods haven't had near the traction. Our general genealogy page advertised through the other sources has had only 58 sessions . At the end of the month, I'll be able to give you a report on whether these promotions increased usage in our genealogy database by comparing this month's usage numbers with previous numbers. It will be more challenging since we have so many genealogy sources, but there should be some increases.
Also this month, those of you who watch TV through Sling TV, Direct Now, PS Vue, or other streaming services or TV apps may have seen our updated "Downloads" commercial. Since Oklahoma is one of the top states whose residents have "cut the cord", we're trying ads on streaming sources instead of cable. Cable TV ad rates range from $75 for a :30s spot on a daytime Food TV show to $600 for a spot on AMC's Walking Dead. For streaming ads (called Over the Top advertising or OTT), it's much cheaper. We've run 5,084 spots on the streaming services and another 1,774 spots on TV apps like TLC, Discovery, AMC, etc. And we only spent $2,000 which comes out to about $0.31 cents a spot!!!
For December, we'll be focusing on our Hobbies & Crafts resource and doing similar advertising. If you haven't checked it out, you should! It has all kinds of ideas. I just clicked on Kid's Crafts, Holiday Christmas and found an awesome article on making Christmas treats, Christmas Bulb Ornaments, Finger-knit Garland, Angel Ornaments and more! I also found some great categories for information and how-to's on soap making, wine making, knitting and crocheting and so much more.
In January, we'll be doing Lynda.com and we'll have a new Lynda.com :30s spot that will be running on OTT. For this one, we should get some good increases in usage.
Sorry this is so long, but I hope this is helpful!
