ProQuest Searching: Genealogy Resources
Join Edward Loera, ProQuest Training & Consulting Partner, as he explores the following online databases and their unique offerings to assist in genealogy research:
Ancestry Library Edition – is one of the most important genealogical collections available today. It has unparalleled coverage of the United States and the United Kingdom, including census, vital, church, court, and immigration records, as well as record collections from Canada, Europe, Australia and other areas of the world.
Heritage Quest - is a comprehensive treasury of American genealogical sources—rich in unique primary sources, local and family histories, and finding aids.
Historic Map Works – discover the physical places of the past—from big cities to small farms. With access to more than five centuries of maps, genealogists, historians, and researchers can gain insight into how physical and human geographies have changed over time.
Oklahoma Sanborn – delivers detailed property and land-use records that depict the grid of everyday life in Oklahoma across a century of change.
Edward will also provide a quick overview of Press Display (esp. Oklahoman and Tulsa World) which provides instant online access to today's newspapers from around the world in full-color, full-page format. The ever-expanding collection currently includes more than 2,300+ U.S. and international titles—from 97 countries in 55 languages. Just like reading the familiar print edition, viewers can browse articles and other key content, such as pictures, advertisements, classifieds, and notices. The service also provides up to a 60-day backfile and the ability to perform keyword searches across all titles and the entire backfile.
