Construction Updates - March 6, 2013

  • ALMONTE -   A letter has been sent to Jim Couch / The City of OKC reaffirming understanding of the city’s goal of replacing the Almonte Library with a permanent building sometime in the future.  If this happens, it will likely be part of the anticipated 2017 GO Bond election.  Two tasks exist for the near term. 1) MLS needs to monitor the use of Almonte over the next year so we can define “what is needed”. And 2), Understand the time line for the bond process.
  • CAPITOL HILL – The four architects that were interviewed on, Monday, February 18th has been ranked in order of “desirability”.  This information will be provided to the City Council on Tuesday, March 12th by the City Engineer with a request for approval to begin contract negotiations with the 1st choice.
  • DEL CITY – Todd attended the City Council meeting on, Monday, March 4th.  In a brief conversation with the Mayor and the City Manager, Todd was told that many of the proposed sites will not work. They also said the bowling alley is under contract but they have one very promising site.  Donna and Todd intend to schedule a meeting with Del City to secure an update of the project status.
  • DOWNTOWN – Studio Architects has been asked to provide a proposal for the leak assessment.  The Construction Dept. & Studio Architects are scheduled to tour the library next, Wednesday, March 13th.
  • EDMOND – Edmond and St. Mary’s Church met last week.  The City Manager intends to ask the City Council on, Monday, March 25th for permission to begin negotiation with the church regarding possible parking lot improvements.
  • JONES – The Metropolitan Library System has returned comments to Studio regarding Schematic Design (SD) submittal and the proposed furniture layouts.  The Construction Department is meeting next week to review these comments.  They are also meeting this, Thursday, March 7th to review Civil, Mechanical and Electrical issues.  Todd also attended the City Council meeting on, Tuesday, March 5th to review the current budget.
  • NORTHWEST – The Metropolitan Library System is continuing to work with OCH on outstanding issues.  MLS and the engineer met on site March 5th to address the sound problems in the meeting room.  An interim, short term fix was executed by MLS staff, but a final solution is also in the works.
