Construction Updates - April 15th, 2015

Find below a recap of the work of the CON Office since our last report, 2015-06, dated 4/3/15.

  • GENERAL
    • LONG RANGE CAPITAL PROJECTS REVIEW
      • On 4/6,  the MLC - Long Range Planning Committee voted to recommend for approval the Long Range Capital Project Priority Recap to the Commission on 4/16.
      • As a follow-up to this, MLS will submit funding requests to the different municipalities.   For OKC, this is related to their next GO Bond election and would include projects at AL, BI, DN & RE.  While the DC project is funded, we need to confirm at what level.  Discussions are currently underway with BE.   Follow-up conversations are needed CT, ED & VI.
  • CAPITOL HILL – DESIGN WORK
    • While the Final Preliminary Report has yet to be approved, the architect is moving into the next phase.
    • A construction documents phase “Kickoff” meeting was held on 4/13.  As we have not met since November, it was a chance for OKC, MLS & the architects, Guernsey & MS+R and their consultants to hit the “reset” button.  We briefly reviewed: Preliminary Report Comments; Scheduling; Budget; Floor Plan Layout Items; Site Concerns and the Furniture, Fixtures & Equipment design process.
    • An updated project schedule is needed and we expect one in the next week to 10 days.
  • CAPITOL HILL – TEMP SPACE
    • On 4/7, the TEMPLY DE ALBANZA Church approved the leasing of the gym at 301 SW 25th St to MLS for a temporary library.  This lease will be presented to the MLC on 4/16.
    • This space is going to work very well.  At almost 12,000 square feet, it will allow MLS to continue all of the services we are currently providing as well the relocation of the entire collection.
    • The design work for the temporary space will start 4/21.
  • DEL CITY
    • MLS has asked Dewberry & Associates for a proposal for a detailed building program.  This would be incorporated into Del City’s Request for Qualification process.
  • EDMOND - PARKING
    • The 1st step in the design of the expanded parking lot at Edmond is to confirm ‘what’s there’.  This was completed last week.  The next design meeting is to be scheduled for next week.
    • While we have not been given a project schedule, I expect the work will begin sometime this fall, Summer Reading.
  • JONES  - RECAP
    • This past week: 4/8 – State Fire Marshal Approved the plans (with a few comments); 4/10 - CON & MTC met to review the 95% Plans; 4/12 - MLS & Jones met to review the 95% Plan; 4/13 - MLS issued plan comments to the architect, Studio.
    • Next week & beyond:  4/20 MLS & Studio to meet to review contract “boiler plate” requirements;   4/20 - Studio begins the final design phase – 100 % documents; CON continues to review the 95% specification.
    • An updated schedule is expected next week.
