SH 611 Unexpected Closure

Purpose

The Metropolitan Library System (“Library System”) is committed to providing favorable working conditions for its employees. The purpose of the Unexpected Closure policy gives primary consideration to the safety of staff and customers. The Library System will make its own determination on operating hours due to inclement weather or other emergency situations.

SH 130 Attendance and Tardiness

Purpose

The Metropolitan Library System (“Library System) is committed to providing favorable working conditions for its employees.  To provide the highest quality service to our customers, the Library System considers punctual and regular attendance an essential function of each employee’s job.  The purpose of the Attendance and Tardiness policy is to provide employees with the Library System’s expectations for work attendance.

Policy

The Employee Dress Code policy ensures that library system employees project a professional, business-like image while expressing a non-intimidating, approachable and comfortable image to our customers.

SH 630 Alcohol and Drug Use Policy

Purpose

The Metropolitan Library System (Library) recognizes that the state of an employee's health affects his/her job performance, the kind of work he/she can perform and may affect his/her opportunities for continued employment. It is the intent of this policy to provide employees with the Library's viewpoint on these behavioral/medical disorders, to encourage a positive viewpoint toward correcting these disorders, and to provide guidelines for consistent application throughout the Library regarding alcohol and drug usage situations.

SH 540 On-the-Job Injuries Workers' Compensation

Purpose

The Metropolitan Library System (“Library”) provides workers' compensation insurance benefits to all employees who experience an injury or illness that arises out of the course and scope of employment. 

SH 220 Employee Leave

Policy

The Employee Leave policy ensures that the Metropolitan Library System has established a set of rules, procedures, and guidelines in accordance with applicable federal and local laws, which govern the process, timeframes, and reporting procedures for time taken off work.

    Library system employees become eligible for certain leave benefits following eligibility rules described in this policy.

SH 120 Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA)

Policy

In accordance with the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), the Metropolitan Library System ("Library") will ensure that all non-exempt employees receive compensation for all time worked.  Overtime pay for hours worked in excess of 40 hours per workweek will be paid at a rate of 1.5 times their regular rate of pay. The Act does not require overtime pay for work on Saturdays, Sundays, holidays, or on-call duty.
