Summer Reading preview and Q & A time. Reminder for all staff to complete the scenarios posted on MyMetrolibrary. There will be further training and a quiz for all staff. The scenarios will help us work out any glitches and provide a deeper level of understanding for the new software.

Development/Volunteer Services – Heidi

Heidi conducted a Summer Volunteer discussion.  She led the group in an activity to think about the qualities and skills needed for summer volunteers and determine what the volunteers should expect from us.

Material Services – Melissa

The Sequoyah 2015 Masterlist has been announced.  Materials Selection is currently ordering more science books.  Melissa informed the group to not withdraw Playaways.

Marketing – Kim

Marketing has been creating templates, which are now available now on MyMetrolibrary. Since most libraries do not have the ability to print on 11x17 paper; MAC has created a $500 budget for each full-service library to print their own templates through an outside printer.  These posters should be created solely from the templates provided by MAC   There are also ½ sheet templates available. Contact Outreach for clear acrylic displays for half sheets or 11x17 posters.

Sharing

Rondia & Annie at NW presented rain cloud crafts and a wonderful goose puppet.

Sally at VI bragged on her son, who was mentioned in the book “The Promise of a Pencil”.  Super Hero day at VI was great. Sally also shared photos.

Alma at WA is preparing to interview volunteers.  Staff members will help train the volunteers. Alma is doing playtime on a consistent basis.  The consistency creates dependability and allows staff to build positive relationships with the families.

Cheryll at SO presented a storytime for names and created a name train craft.  Cheryll is planning a Zumba for kids and a second Zumba program for adults.   Cheryll is preparing an evening storytime on Tuesday nights during the Summer.

Amy at Edmond Library attended PLA.  She attended a  session on apps for early literacy.  The most important was the reminder to encourage parents to engage with their children when they are using the apps.

Daniel at BE is preparing reading help program this summer.

Jennifer at CH is adding some Mother Goose on the Loose programming to her storytime.

Kate at MC had the lego club create boats and tested with pennies to see how they would float. Kate presented an interactive The Little Mermaid showing at MC and is planning one with the Wizard of Oz. Will have Tinkering Tuesdays during the Summer.

Jessica at Downtown plans to do more evening storytimes.

Megan at BI is going to start doing Playtime weekly. Doing a Monday night storytime. Working on getting a reference desk in the children’s area.
Mary at LO reeminded staff to book Spoticus if you want him over the Summer.

Tulin at DC had a great first session of 1-2-3 Play with Me.
